Translation Tool Window

The Translation tool window shows what model elements are called in the model language and in other display languages created in the model.

Purpose

You can use other languages for model elements as well as the model language.

You can translate model content and display these translations to help when presenting the model to those who are not familiar with the model language.

The Translation tool window is used for translating the model language into other display languages.

You can add display languages as model administrator with Model>Manage Languages>Display Languages.

You can set the active language in the status bar using the flag icon and in the tool window by clicking on the language's column header. The active language is marked with an icon.

The model's current display language is shown below the ribbon.

Prerequisites

  • Due to your currently used role you have the privilege Translate Model Elements.

  • The translation key is entered in the license server for automatic translation. If this service is not activated, then the Translate Automatically button is not shown. The web service supports the respective translation from the model language to the display language(s).

Call

Open the tool window with Review>Translation>Translate Model Elements.

Structure

The Translation tool window consists of a ribbon at the top with the Texts to display, Language, Web Service (optional) and Change groups and a table at the bottom for displaying model elements in the Model Language and set display languages.

  • Texts to display group with four filter check boxes with a status icon for the display languages

     Not translated: There is no translation for the display language. You can change the status of a translation in the table to Not to be translated if the change has no effect on the translation.

     Out of date: The up-to-dateness of a translation is in question if the name has been changed in the model language since the translation was made. You can set the status in the table to Up-to-date if the change has no effect on the translation.

     Up-to-date: The up-to-dateness of a translation is assumed if the name has not been changed in the model language since the translation was made.

     Not to be translated: The model element should not be translated because, for example, it is a fixed term.

  • Language drop-down list for the display language

    If at least one display language was set, you can select the language here and set it as an additional display language in the table with the Add button.

    Restriction

    The display language is used for creating or editing the translation in this language, displaying content in the selected language and generating documentation. Other functions of the model editor are therefore limited.

    Model content cannot be edited; this includes creating new elements, editing their properties or comparing models. You cannot export and import model content (except for translations).

  • The Web Service group with the Translate Automatically button only appears for the web service set-up. Depending on the selection, you will be able to see whether the selected cell or row has been translated in the display language(s).

  • The Change group contains buttons for setting the status of the translation (multiple selection possible)

     Delete: you can delete the selected translations. Status changes to Not translated.

     Out-of-date: how up-to-date translations are can be called into question, even if the term has not been changed in the model language since the translation was first made.

     Up-to-date: how up-to-date translations are can be explicitly approved even if a change has been made in the model language, e.g. if the change does not affect the translation.

     Not to be translated: model elements should not be translated because, for example, they are fixed terms.

  • Table with the selected and unfiltered model elements in the model and the following columns: An  icon in the column header shows the active language in the model.

    • Model Language column with model element terms in the model language

      A stereotype icon and another icon for specification texts, labels, stereotype properties and properties with tool tip let you know what the text is for and make it easier to assign the respective model element.

    • <Display Language> column (for each added display language)

      • Status icon column with the status of the translation in the display language (see above)

      • Model element labels in the display language

      • Entries which show a specific specification text have the Text... button for opening the window for translating specification texts.

    •  Copy icon column for copying an existing translation for an element with the same name

      If multiple elements in the model language have the same name, a copy icon () appears in this column. You can use it to copy a translation for elements with the same name.

  • Fill the table by selecting elements

    • Selecting multiple model elements, e.g. in the model structure, fills the table with these elements and their direct subelements, specification texts, labels, stereotype properties and properties.
    • Selecting a package, e.g. in the model structure, fills the table with this package, its content and its direct subelements, specification texts, labels, stereotype properties and properties.
    • Clicking on the background of an open diagram fills the table with all diagram elements
    • Selecting multiple diagram elements fills the table with precisely these elements.

    Restriction

    We recommend that you only select one element for elements with lots of subelements, as text assignment to the respective element is otherwise complicated.
