Logging Model Changes
You can record and group modifications to a model in change sets.
Innovator allows you to record and group modifications to a model in change sets.
Note
Only the model administrator can activate change sets in the Administrative Tasks backstage view.
The Change Sets backstage view then appears and the active change set is shown in the status bar. Click on the log to jump to the Change Sets backstage view in the model editor.
Each user always works in precisely one change set if change sets are active. This then records the user's changes to the model. Multiple users can work in the same change set to record related changes.
A user's active change set records all relevant changes that they directly or indirectly make to a model. These changes are recorded as operations, e.g. creating, deleting, modifying elements, properties or specification texts.
If you are administrator or your user role has the View Change Logs privilege, then you can
-
Use the Details button in the Change Sets backstage view to open the Change Set tool window; this contains details about the individual changes
-
Use History in the tables in the context menu in the Change Set tool window to open the element's history table
-
Use History in an element's context menu in practically all windows which display a model element to open the element's history table
You can link a change set to an external system and assign it a corresponding system ID in the Modify Change Set's Properties dialog. External systems can be e.g. documentation systems, workflow management systems and change management systems; these contain further information about the change context.
You can collect all model modifications for a certain change context (technical change, technical refactoring etc.) in a change set. You are supported by numerous functions here. Change sets can be used by multiple users, which means that different users can share a change set. Change sets can also be merged in the Change Sets backstage view. You can also copy or move modifications from one change set to other change sets at log entry level in order to create complete change sets for a change context.
