Creating an Analysis Graph for a Model Element
You can create an impact analysis by creating an impact analysis diagram and dragging a model element into the diagram to establish certain content and display settings for its analysis graph.
Context
The impact analysis diagram displays the interconnection of a model element using the analysis graph.
Start an impact analysis by creating or opening an impact analysis diagram and dragging a model element into it to identify its analysis graph. To do this, all relationships with other model elements are evaluated.
You can configure content and display and restrict these to certain elements, stereotypes, element types and relationship properties.
You can use the graph configured in the diagram to view the relevant and current dependencies and links for the model element.
You can set graph refresh to automatic or manual in the Impact Analysis>Refresh ribbon group.
How to proceed
-
To create an impact analysis diagram, select Start>New>New Diagram>Impact Analysis Diagram.
-
Select the model element you want to see the analysis graph for and drag it onto the impact analysis diagram.
The impact analysis diagram shows the analysis graph of the model element.
-
To see diagram content as a list, activate View>Document Views>Diagram Content. You can group the diagram elements according to stereotypes using the Grouping check box below the list. You can limit the nodes in this list by entering a name component in the Filter field.
The list is restricted to the nodes that contain the name component. The graph display is not influenced by this.
-
Activate the Impact Analysis>Graph>Smooth graph toggle command to align all nodes along the length of the path in the graph direction, starting from the initial node.
The analysis graph is recalculated. The logical edge direction is ignored. A node with a short path length from the initial node is close to the initial node.
The toggle command setting is saved for the diagram.
-
To set how the direction of the graph, select the entry you require from the Graph Direction drop-down list.
The analysis graph is recalculated and displayed with the selected alignment.
The graph direction setting is saved for the diagram.
-
To set the scope of analysis of the graph, select the path length starting from the start element from the Analysis Range drop-down list.
The analysis graph is recalculated. All nodes that can be reached by the path length given and all edges in between these nodes are taken into consideration.
-
To set how the elements should be taken into consideration when structuring the graph, open the Impact Analysis Content tool window with Impact Analysis>Configuration>Edit Content.
The tool window appears. For user-defined elements, stereotypes, element types and relationship properties, you can use the
Set conditions for content configuration dialog to set whether and how elements should be used in the graph.
-
To set how the element should be display in the graph, open the Impact Analysis Display tool window with Impact Analysis>Configuration>Edit Display.
The tool window appears. Set whether and how icons should be shown for user-defined elements, stereotypes, element types and relationship properties in the
Set conditions for display configuration dialog.
