Backing-Up Model Versions
Set write protection for a selected model version to stop changes being able to be made or create a back-up in write protect mode to use as a recovery copy.
Setting and Removing Write Protection
Prerequisites
You require a version rule that fits the model's name to be able to write protect the model version.
You require the Manage Environment right to be able to remove write protection.
Context
You can set a version to read-only mode with the Set Read-Only command if you want a version to be able to be seen but changes should not be able to be made to it.
If the version is active, then it is automatically closed and restarted.
Unlike with a back-up which creates an extra subordinate back-up dataset at a particular point in time (snapshot), the original version is maintained here.
Users can set a version as write protected using a version rule in the administration program and in the model editor. Select Set Read-Only in the context menu.
A user with the Manage Environment right can only reset the write protection for the version in the administration program.
How to proceed
-
Select the model version you wish to set write protection for.
-
Activate the
Set Read-Only toggle command in the context menu.
The model version is marked to be write protected with the
icon overlay.
-
To remove the write protection with the Manage Environment right, deactivate the
Set Read-Only toggle command in the administration program.
The
icon overlay is removed.
Backing-Up Model Versions
Prerequisites
- An active model must be selected in the Managed Models tab.
- You require a version rule that fits the model's name.
Context
At certain times, you explicitly create model back-ups so that you can revert back to this state at a later stage or to keep a certain model state in a way that protects it from changes.
Reading engineering actions can be used in managed models that are always write protected.
How to proceed
-
Select
Model>Create>New Backup.
The New Backup wizard appears.
-
Enter a name for the back-up in the Version Name field.
Restriction
You can set name rules for the back-up name of a managed model. The name must comply with the current name rule.
You cannot change the back-up name at a later stage.
Click on the Next to go to step 2.
-
Enter a description for the version in the Description field.
Alternatively, you can save the description of the selected model version without changing it.
The description name cannot be changed later on.
Click on Next to go to step 3.
-
Check the settings for creating the backup. Please bear in mind that a back-up's name and description cannot be changed at a later stage.
-
If everything is correct, click on Finish.
The
back-up is created. This may take some time.
The new back-up is selected.
Restoring a Back-Up
Prerequisites
- A non-active back-up must be selected in the Managed Models tab.
- The model version the back-up belongs to can also not be active.
- Environment right is also required.
Context
You want to restore a model version to the state it had in the back-up and have the Manage Environment right.
You can find back-ups in the tree directly below the model version; they have a CD icon next to them.
The model version is replaced by the back-up. The back-up is not deleted. If the model version has been renamed since the back-up, then the old name is restored as well.
How to proceed
-
Select View>View>Inactive Backups to see the back-up and to be able to select it.
-
Select the back-up and select Recovery>Backup>Restore Backup.
A security prompt appears.
-
Confirm the prompt with Yes.
After a short while, the model version is restored to the back-up state.
Model content, name, description and all other properties are restored to the back-up state.
You can restart the model version.
