Model Element List Tool Window

Purpose

The Model Element List tool window provides a clear tabular representation of all subordinate elements (owned elements) of a model element selected in the model structure.

You can change the order in the list, and also the structure of the model elements, if necessary, using drag-and-drop.

Structure

The Model Element List tool window shows the elements associated with the element selected in the model structure (model tree or structure content) as content in the form of a list.

At the top edge is the address bar for the breadcrumb navigation (position of an element relative to the root element).

On the right is a filter field which can be used to constrain the display of the list using a text pattern.

Information Displayed

Open the Model Element List tool window

in the Model Structure tool window view by clicking on Show Model Element List
from the context menu for the model structure, via Go to>Location in Model Element List (Ctrl+Shift+M)
via View>Window>Tool Windows>Model Element List

At the top is the address bar with breadcrumb navigation and display filters.

The content of the element selected in the model structure is shown in the list, with the following information:

Location in the model structure (order)
Name of the owned element
Shortname (where applicable)
Type of the owned element
Created of the owned element
Changed of the owned element

You can use most ribbon commands for the elements in the list. The context menu contains other commands.

Use

Navigating

The path shown in the address bar is synchronized with the Model Structure in the Model Contents tool window.

When selecting an item in the structure content, the structure path displayed is extended with this selection.

Use the Back Forward buttons to jump to previously selected elements.

You can use the button at the end of the address row to select a previously selected structural element.

You can use the breadcrumb navigation to jump directly to the path elements and display the respective subordinate structure elements in the submenu and select them. For performance reasons, this functionality of the breadcrumbs is only available for the structural model elements of the model tree.

Filters

You can use the filter field to constrain the display of owned elements using a string. The list is then constrained to the elements which contain the string in their name.

Clicking on the Forward and Back buttons or in the address path does not cancel the filter constraints.

Sorting and Changing the Order

Click on one of the column heads to temporarily sort the list in ascending or descending order by the content of the column. Click on the sort order column to restore the currently saved order.

If you have access rights for the owner, you can adopt the current sort as sort order using the Start>Organize>Adopt sort order command. The order numbers are modified accordingly. Please note that the order is arbitrary only for elements of equal type, and may otherwise be subject to constraints.

If you have access rights to the model elements and the order is currently sorted by the location in the model structure, you can change the order of the items directly using drag-and-drop.

Modifying Displayed Elements

You can edit each element shown in the tool window in the Properties tool window.

Diagrams can be opened by clicking on the [Enter] key, by double-clicking or with the Open and Open Read-Only commands.

You can edit specification texts with the Start>Open>Specification Text (F3) command.

You can copy elements and paste elements from the clipboard.

The context menu contains other commands.

Drag-and-Drop in Other Areas

You can use the mouse (left mouse button pressed) to drag elements into other areas.

Elements can be dragged into the result region and are then added.
Elements can be dragged into an open diagram if they are allowed as contents in the diagram and do not already exist there. This only works for logical elements (e.g. classes), i.e. it does not work if diagram elements (e.g. class nodes) are shown in the Details area.
Elements can be dragged into bookmark lists and stored there for quicker access.
