Innovator clients can be easily installed for Windows using the web installer. You can find all necessary information for installing clients and servers in the network there.
Innovator is available server-sided for various operating systems. These Innovator versions can be integrated in a heterogeneous network and operate with identical data. In the process, the interaction and storage of the individual products can be handled in an extremely variable manner.
Client interfaces are only available for Windows versions.
Innovator keeps the data in a standard online repository, which is described with an open data model so that all of a project's data can be exchanged between all systems as desired.
You can download the Innovator installation files using the web installer (InnovatorEnterpriseInstaller.exe) from the MID website.
You can download the web installer for Innovator from the MID website after registering either as a potential buyer or as a customer.
Alternatively, you can download the installation files for offline installation as a language-dependent ZIP file in the exclusive customer area.
Registered customers with service agreements have access to the exclusive customer area, which contains all installation files for all operating systems and versions supported. You can find information about the products and installation in a separate document (PDF) and in this Help.
The installation files for direct or administrative installation of the client and server are available in German and English. Language selection determines the language for installation dialogs and the default interface language setting. You can change the interface language at any time at a later stage using the environment variable.
Use one of the following options for direct installation for the current user or for all users.
Web installer InnovatorEnterpriseInstaller.exe or the setup.exe program from the offline installation package Innovator_11_R5_11.5.3_#####_Windows_EN.zip
Both programs check the software installation requirements for the client and will also provide these if you have Internet access; if not, the installation process will proceed anyway.
Windows Installer msiexec.exe (Microsoft product)
If you do not want to check and provide the software installation requirements for the client – because you have no Internet access from the server, for example – you can use Windows Installer with the MSI file InnovatorEnterprise.msi in the offline installation package Innovator_11_R5_11.5.3_#####_Windows_EN.zip.
Call the msiexec.exe Windows Installer using the appropriate parameters to call the administrative installation; you can then prepare customized installation files for installation from the network.
(The installation files for the various Unix variations are language neutral. They can only be used to install the server and respective interfaces. They use an installation script where you can set the interface language using the appropriate environment variable.) You can find more information about installation on Unix systems here.
When installing with Windows, a dialog sequence will lead you through the various steps involved.
Before starting the installation, you should have the following to hand:
Innovator differentiates between two different installation types:
The following paragraph describes the installation for the supported Microsoft Windows operating system.
To start Innovator installation:
Download and run the web installer InnovatorEnterpriseInstaller.exe from the customer area of the MID website
Download the ZIP file Innovator_11_R5_11.5.3_#####_Windows_EN.zip from the customer area of the MID website, unzip it and run the program setup.exe
The Windows installer sets up the Innovator installation. This wizard helps you to execute the installation in dialog mode.
The wizard checks whether Microsoft .NET Framework 4 is installed and installs it from the Internet if it is not already installed. Internet access is required for this. Innovator installation is started even if the installation of NET Framework cannot be successfully completed.
The Computing space requirement dialog appears, if somewhat briefly. This analyzes the installation files and certain prerequisites.
You need to agree with MID GmbH's license agreement in the License Agreement dialog in order to continue with the installation.
Read the MID GmbH license agreement and activate the check box to agree with it. Finally, click on Next.
Specify the installation directory and scope of installation with all the product functions you wish to be able to use in the Choose Setup Type dialog. The installation directory suggested in this dialog the first time you install is C:\Innovator\11.5.
Do not install Innovator in the Program Files folder as Innovator writes files to its directory and certain Windows mechanisms might block these changes.
To change the installation target folder, click on the Browse… button and set the installation directory in the Change destination folder dialog.
To choose a predefined installation scenario, click on the Complete, Typical Client or Typical Server buttons.
Custom gives you the option of choosing which product features to install and define all the installation parameters yourself. The default settings correspond to the Server installation type.
The Environment Settings and Product Features dialogs only appear if you choose the Custom installation type.
The Environment Settings dialog only appears if you chose the Custom installation type.
A license server manages the Innovator licensing. In order to communicate with this license server, each Innovator application needs the following information:
Port number used for communication between server and local computer
The port number must be a value between 1024 and 64000.
The information must always be added in the form <License server host name>.<Port number>, i.e. the different parts of information are separated by a point.
Innovator stores settings and certain files (e.g. parameter files and Java files for engineering actions) in a local directory as standard. Innovator also has the option of using a shared network directory to make central defaults and simplify updates as they can be carried out centrally. All users must have read rights for this workgroup directory. The user making the changes to the settings in the parameter files etc. must have write rights in the workgroup directory. All users of a workgroup directory need to be in the same network and use the same license server. Network type information corresponds to the INODIR environment variable.
An \Innovator\11.5\ path is created in the %USERPROFILE% Windows environment variable as standard for user-specific settings. This path corresponds to the INOHOME environment variable.
You can use the type of installation to enter whether Innovator should be installed for the current user or all users of the computer. The entries for the Innovator program group and Windows registration are then stored in the respective directory.
How to proceed
If you want to specify a shared working directory on the network, activate the Use a shared working directory check box and enter the corresponding network path.
These files are then not installed locally.
The Product Features dialog only appears if you chose the Custom installation type.
The structure of the Innovator program features appears in this dialog for you to select. For each program features you can specify whether
To change the installation target folder, click on the topmost Innovator node, click on the Browse… button and set the installation directory in the Change destination folder dialog.
The Completion dialog informs you once installation is complete. You can set whether you want the ReadMe file to appear after installation and whether you want to run Innovator straight away with the demo license. The ReadMe file contains important system information about using Innovator.
Before you can work with an unrestricted version, you have to inform the system of the Innovator licenses you have bought. You can find a detailed description of this in Chapter 5, "Activating Innovator Products" in the administration manual.
To use services with Windows, further actions must still be carried out and certain precautions must be taken. Please ensure you read what needs to be done in Chapter 3.2 "Executing Servers as Windows Services" in the administration manual.
