Installing a Minor Release

With Innovator – as is common with software – there is a differentiation between versions which require different procedures during installation.

Composition of the Technical Version Number

The complete technical version number for an installation includes the specifications for the Version (V), Release (R), Service Release (S) and Build (B). In principle, the technical version number is composed as follows: V.R.S.B (e.g. 11.5.3.31122 for Innovator 11 R5 Service Release 2 [hotfix] B).

Major Release

Version and release define the major release of Innovator.

Major releases can be installed and operated side by side. In other words, you can install Innovator 11 R5 (11.5.x) alongside Innovator 11 R4 (11.4.x).

Note:

Operating a new major release requires an upgrade order, which you can download from the customer area.

More detailed information about installation is included in the installation manual for the version in question.

Minor Release

Service release and build define the minor release of Innovator.

Minor releases cannot be installed side by side since they use the same items in the Windows registry.

A new release is service release number 1. The first actual service release is therefore number 2.

The build number can represent a hotfix to a service release.

To update to a new minor release, follow these steps:

  1. Back up certain existing data
  2. Uninstall the existing minor release
  3. Install the new minor release

More detailed information about installation is included in the installation manual for the version in question.

Uninstalling the Existing Minor Release

To update to a new minor version, i.e. to install a service release or a hotfix (e.g. from version 11.5.1.XXXXX or 11.5.3.XXXXX to version 11.5.3.YYYYY), you first need to uninstall the existing minor release of the software.

Before uninstalling, please back up the following files:

The uninstall program is in the Windows Start menu Start>Programs>Innovator 11.5. You can also uninstall via the Control Panel (Software and Programs).

The software can be uninstalled, repaired or changed.

Installing a New Minor Release or Version

When the new version is installed it will acknowledge that there is data in the installation directory. The new files will be saved alongside the existing files or will overwrite these.

Following installation, the license repository will be loaded from the license server and verified for validity.

  1. If the version and the release – that is the major release – are still the same (e.g. 11.5.2 to 11.5.3), the license repository will be accepted and you can continue running the program without the license needing to be cleared again.
  2. If the version has changed (e.g. 11.5 to 11.6), the license repository needs to be cleared by the manufacturer's order processing department (auftragsbearbeitung@mid.de). Instructions for this are included in the administration program.
