Administrative Installation of Innovator

You can find all necessary information for installing clients and servers in the network there.

If you have decided to use the administrative installation, you can carry out additional installations on other computers via the network using this installation. You no longer need to use the Innovator data medium for this.

Administrative Installation

The advantage of administrative installation is that as system administrator you can already decide on certain specifications from the outset. This means that even those people who might normally struggle when having to carry out installations themselves will be able to install Innovator or you can even prepare it in such a way that it will be an automated process. For administrative installation, start Windows Installer with the following parameters:

msiexec /a InnovatorEnterprise.msi /qf TARGETDIR=<target path>

/a <Product.msi> Administrative Installation - installs a product in the network.
/q[n|b|r|f] Sets the user interface.
- n - No user interface
- b - Simple user interface
- r - Reduced user interface
- f - Complete user interface (default, recommended)
TARGETDIR=<target path> Sets the target directory for preparing in the network. You require write rights and sufficient storage space. If you do not enter these parameters, then the first available network directory with write rights and sufficient storage space found is used.

Examples:

msiexec /a InnovatorEnterprise.msi /qf TARGETDIR=\\server1\Install

msiexec /a InnovatorEnterprise.msi /qf TARGETDIR=S:\Install

The dialogs listed above appear when the full user interface is called. Enter the specifications you want for the installation. Select a network directory as installation directory which you have write rights for so that you can prepare Innovator for installation from this network directory. Once you have carried out the administrative installation, the directory will contain both a customized copy of the InnovatorEnterprise.msi file and also all files required for subsequent distribution.

Note:

If you want to use a common workgroup directory, then copy the \inodir directory from the target path to a suitable location in the network.

If you want to use a common project directory, then copy the \inoprj directory from the target path to a suitable location in the network.

Installing Innovator on the Network

If you have an adapted installation file for Innovator in the network, then you can install Innovator from the network on to another computer. Installation off a network requires less user settings as they have already been made upon administrative installation.

How to proceed

To install Innovator on the network:

Navigate from your computer on the network to the computer and directory where the Innovator installation file was prepared (target path for the administrative installation).
If you want to run the installation with complete user interface, then call the customized installation file InnovatorEnterprise.msi in this directory and follow the dialogs as described in The Installation Process section.
If you want to run the installation in the background without the need for user interaction or with reduced user interface, then use Windows Installer's default parameters /quiet or /qn.
