Structuring Licenses with Internal Projects

You can use part of your licenses to equip internal project license servers with a project-specific set of licenses. Do this to make it easier to see which models are available and so that you can carry on using projects from older Innovator versions.

Separate Project License Server

You can use some of your licenses to equip internal project license servers in the network with a project-specific set of licenses. The use of internal project license servers increases the clarity of the offered models by placing them into separate projects and enables the continuing use of projects with older Innovator versions.

To do this, you need to assign the required licenses and reserve them for your internal projects. This means that you can e.g. use current projects to decide how many licenses you need for which computers and for what length of time, and in this way separate the processing of your projects.

The following tasks occur in conjunction with the creation of internal projects:

  • Optional for load distribution: Setup of a separate project computer and assignment of data repositories to this project computer
  • Creation of an internal project in the administration program
  • Assignment of licenses to the internal project in the administration program
  • Starting the license server on the project computer
  • Deleting Internal Projects

Optional Setup of a Separate Project Computer

Context

In particular, setting up a separate project computer with the repositories of the project is recommended if the processing load caused by the modeling should be distributed to different computers. The load caused by the communication of the model servers with the license server is negligible.

If you simply want to separate projects from an organizational point of view, the use of separate computers is not required.

How to proceed

  1. Install Innovator 16.0 on the computer that will be used for the separate project.

If you want to use a previous Innovator version in the project, you need to install this version instead. Then proceed as normal.

  2. To distribute the processing load caused by the modeling to different computers, move the repositories of the project to the $INOPRJ project directory on this computer.

Start the model server for these repositories on this computer. The computer on which the license server of the project is running is irrelevant here.

Assigning Licenses to the Project

Prerequisites

You have licenses that you can assign to an internal project.

You have created an internal project with the License>Create>New Project command.

Context

The license structure basically consists of the "Innovator Client Access" work station license, which is always required and allows authorized users read access to the model data, and the licenses for Innovator products, which enable the use of the corresponding editing functions, either as the Enterprise Suite or as individual products.

You can assign a maximum number of licenses corresponding to the available free licenses.

You can change the assignment of the licenses in the same way.

How to proceed

  1. Select the internal project in the administration program.

  2. Select View>View>Edit Properties.

The project properties areas are displayed.

  3. Expand the Licenses section.

The table with the licenses managed on the main license server appears.

  4. Enter the number for each license in the Assigned column or change it with [Crsr Up] or [Crsr Down]. Jump to the next entry with [Tab].

The number in the Free column is reduced accordingly.

  5. Adopt the assigned licenses with [Enter] or click on Apply.

The specified licenses are assigned to the internal project. They can be used by the project license server and the model servers connected to it.

Deleting Internal Projects

Prerequisites

A license administrator login is required.

The project's license server cannot be active.

Context

Purpose of the program

How to proceed

  1. Select the project to be deleted and select License>Project License Server>Delete (Shift+Del).

    A deletion confirmation prompt appears.

  2. Click on OK.

    The selected project is deleted.
