Starting and Stopping Model Versions

Model versions are always started and stopped via the agent. The Model Server (inosrv.exe) is only required on the computer which the agent is running on.

Starting a Model Version

Prerequisites

  • Inactive versions are displayed. If necessary, select View>View>Inactive Model Versions.
  • A non active model version is selected in the Managed Models tab.
  • If you cannot see the desired model version, select Read Agent File System and View>Synchronize>Reload Contents (F5) if required in the context menu.
  • You require a version rule that fits the model's name.

Context

You want to start a model version in order to make it available for editing.

An agent can be selected when starting a model version in the logical structure if multiple agents have the same directory.

How to proceed

  • Select Model>Model Version>Start.

Initially, the selected model version is displayed in the state "in startup". The state is automatically updated.

It may take a short while for the model version to be shown as active; once it is, you can start using it.

    Backups are always read-only.

Stopping a Model Version

Prerequisites

  • An active model version is selected in the Managed Models tab.
  • You require a version rule that fits the model's name.

Context

You want to close a model version.

How to proceed

  • Select Model>Model Version>Shutdown.

Initially, the selected model version is displayed in the state "in shutdown".

The state is automatically updated and the model version is then shown as inactive.

You can show and hide inactive model versions with View>View>Inactive Model Versions.

Stopping All Model Versions for an Agent

Prerequisites

  • The View>View>Physical Structure view is selected. Agents are only shown in this view.
  • An agent is selected in the Managed Models tab.
  • You require the Manage Environment right.

Context

All model versions managed by an agent are closed when the agent is closed. You can also do this explicitly with this command.

The number of affected models is shown in the dialog in the physical structure. This makes it easier to see when the procedure was carried out.

How to proceed

  1. Select Model>Model Version>Stop All.

A dialog appears, asking for confirmation.

  2. Select Yes.

The model versions are closed. You can see which versions are currently being closed by the "in shutdown" icon in the tree nodes.

Only model versions which are running on the selected agents are closed. Model versions running on other agents are displayed grayed out and do not impede the selected agent.

Closing lots of and large models can take an extremely long time. Please plan sufficient time for this.

Protecting a Model Version Before Closing

Prerequisites

  • An active model version is selected in the Managed Models tab.
  • Environment right is also required.

Context

You can protect important model versions which should always run before they are shut down by mistake.

You require the environment right to be able to close a model version which has been protected in this way.

The Model>Model Version>Protect From Shutdown toggle command shows all users that the model version is protected.

Agent users have the environment right; the version is shut down as usual when the agent is closed.

How to proceed

  • Activate the Model>Model Version>Protect From Shutdown toggle command to protect a model version from being closed by mistake.

The button is highlighted. The model version can only be closed with the environment right.
