Administrating Subscription Server Licenses

Licenses need to be administrated if you bought Innovator licenses or if they were supplied for testing purposes.

Prerequisites

An administrator manages Innovator licenses.

Named User licenses are managed in your subscription server's MID account. MID must set-up your account.

The account administrator carries out the license administrator tasks on the subscription server.

Prerequisites for managing licenses:

  • You are logged-in to the subscription server as account manager.

(MID assigns the account administrator's e-mail address to the account. Registering with this e-mail address gives the account administrator access to the account.)

  • Each client has Internet access to the MID's subscription server (https://identity.mid.de)

In the following sections we will assume that these requirements are met.

License Administrator Tasks

The administrator's tasks include

  • Adding users to the account from a list of e-mail addresses

(The user name is assigned to the e-mail address when the respective user registers with their e-mail address.)

  • Assigning licenses to users or groups on the account

  • Extending licenses on the account

  • Starting and stopping license servers

  • Setting up and closing internal or external projects

  • Changing location of license servers

  • Managing users in the main license server (also possible with the "Manage Users" right)

Activating Subscription Server Licenses

Licenses from an MID subscription server implement the named user license model with user licenses which are assigned to certain Innovator products.

Note

Innovator products only need to be activated if you bought licenses or if they were supplied for testing purposes.

If you are using the demo version (for stand-alone systems only), all general Innovator 16.0 products are activated for a period of sixty days. However, only models of a certain size can be saved.

All programs and parameter files were copied to the computer during the installation. If Innovator does not find a license repository when started, the program automatically creates a demo license repository for a stand-alone system with a limited period of validity and other constraints (for example, the number of model elements that can be stored per model).

To work without any limitation with the products you have purchased, you must activate Innovator with the subscription server's licenses.

You require an account on MID's subscription license server for this, which contains the licenses required.

Based on your order, MID GmbH will provide you with a tailor-made license package for your account.

The account manager assigns licenses to users in the account management.

Innovator installation client applications connect to MID's subscription license server to provide client applications with customized licenses.

Proceed as follows to be able to use your licenses:

  1. Install Innovator. Initially, you will only have the demo version when you start the program.

  2. Start the administration program and go to the backstage view Help & Support.

  3. Click on the Activate Innovator button in the Licensing area.

    The Login dialog appears.

  4. Enter your registration e-mail address and password for your MID account and click on Login.

Make sure you register if you have not already.

A message appears saying that the 'Demo' Innovator model server will be closed.

  5. Confirm with OK.

  6. Innovator can now be used on this computer with all customized licenses.

Note

You need to start an agent if working with managed models.

You need to start a model server if working with independent models.

You can use part of your licenses to equip separate project license servers. This way you can equip internal project license servers with a project-specific set of licenses on your network. Moreover, it is also possible to edit projects on external machines (e.g. for a presentation on a notebook computer).
