Creating Processes

A process can be displayed as a definition in precisely one diagram. The process can be shown as a referencing view in any number of other diagrams. A BPMN process diagram is created below a process when it is created; this always contains a complete and correct view of the process.

A process and a diagram are differentiated between in the model. A diagram is a bit like a piece of paper which can be used to model processes on. Multiple processes can be displayed in a BPMN diagram at the same time if required; this is normally done so as to model a collaboration. However, the special BPMN process diagram belongs to precisely one process. This means that precisely this process is also displayed and model there.

It is also possible to display a process in various diagrams at the same time. Innovator differentiates between definitions and referencing views: there is precisely one definition per process which is used for modeling; there can be any number of referencing views which only display the process.

When you create a new process, the process is created together with its respective BPMN process diagram and you can start modeling with it straight away.
