Creating Resources

The business resources and organizational units required for carrying out a process are modeled using business resources. Business resources can be used directly in the modeled processes. You create resources in the model structure or business resources diagram; these can also shown their relationships.

Resources

A resource is a way of executing an activity or letting a process run. A business resource is understood as being all that is used in the company when executing a process or individual tasks. It can be an IT resource, a concrete person, a role or an organizational unit, to name but a few.

A definition and a use are differentiated between in the model. A resource is only defined in one single place in a model. However, resources can be used more than once in diagrams.

You normally open a business resources diagram first if you want to create and model a new resource; the resource will then be created in the new diagram.

Organizational units and other business resources can be created in the business resources diagram using drag-and-drop from the context menu or carousel. It is also possible to create elements in the model structure within a package that is allowed to contain them.

Creating a Business Resource

Prerequisites

You can create business resources in the business resources diagram.

Context

You cannot directly create the specific IT elements application and application system. You must first create a general IT element. You can then change the resource type in the Properties tool window.

How to proceed

  1. Jump to the Design tab.
  2. Drag a resource template from the gallery in the Create Diagram Contents group and drop it where you want in the diagram.
  3. To change the resources type, select the resource and create the Resource Type property in the tool window of the same name.
  4. Confirm the resources type with [Enter].
