Connect Elements Dialog

This dialog can be used to connect an element which only exists in the left-hand model with an element that only exists in the right-hand model so that they are merged into one node in the tree for the Compare Model Elements editor.

Purpose

Use the Compare Model Elements editor to compare two models, the result is shown in the left-hand tree. Two elements from both models which are identified as matching are shown as one node. Two elements are recognized as being matching if they are from the same element type, are in the same branch and have the same UUID or name. Elements not identified as having a matching element in the other model get a separate node in the tree. An icon shows whether the element only exists in the left or right model. You can explicitly set matches for these types of elements. You can use the dialog to set the matching element for the left model from the right model.

Connecting Elements

Prerequisites

A branch in the Compare Model Elements editor contains at least one element that only exists in the left model and at least one element that only exists in the right model. These elements need to be from the same element type.

How to proceed

  1. Select the element that only exists in the left-hand model.
  2. Select Map... in the context menu.

    The Connect Elements dialog appears.

  3. From the list of elements that only exists in the right-hand model, select the element which you want to be the matching element for the element from the left-hand model displayed above.
  4. Confirm with OK.

An icon appears in the tree for both elements to let you know they will be used in the next comparison.

You can carry out the comparison or identify further element pairs as matches.
