Tool Window DB Manager

Use the DB Manager tool window to compare an Innovator database model with a real database in a DBMS.

Prerequisite

The tool window only appears if you have a license for Innovator for Database Architects.

Purpose

Create new tables in Innovator; these are provided by tables which exist in a DBMS.
Show differences between Innovator tables and DBMS tables.
Expand Innovator tables corresponding to DBMS tables.
Create a differences DLL.

Structure

Ribbon: The ribbon contains a group for the tool window.This group is automatically activated if the tool window is clicked on.

Select database connection: You can set a connection to a DBMS here and get the meta data for tables; these are then shown in the list on the left-hand side.
Refresh database schema: Create respective Innovator tables for the selected DBMS tables. If there are already tables of this type in Innovator aspects of the table which do not already exist in Innovator are extended, e.g. columns. On the other hand, if e.g. a column already exists but has another data type as the respective DBMS column, this is not modified.
Add to database schema: You can create tables for the DBMS tables selected in Innovator here. If there are already tables of the same type in Innovator, the respective selected DBMS tables are not taken into consideration.
Create difference DDL: Use this to compare the selected DBMS tables with the corresponding Innovator tables and create the corresponding difference DDL.
Show differences: Compare the selected DBMS tables with the respective Innovator tables and highlight the differences for the DBMS tables.

A list of DBMS tables is shown on the left.You can determine which tables are shown there with the buttonSelect database connection...

The Innovator tables of a DB schema are shown on the right. You can set the DB schema by searching for the DB schema you want e.g. in the model structure and using drag-and-drop and drag it into the list on the right. If tables were already shown there from another DB schema, these are no longer shown.

Detailed information about a selected DBMS table or Innovator table is shown at the bottom. This detailed information is structured differently depending on what is selected, i.e. it represents either JDBC or Innovator data.
