Copying Another Active Model

Create a new model as a copy of another independent model.

Prerequisites

The New Model Wizard is open.

The model server which contains the model to be copied is running.

You require administrator rights for the source model server.

Context

You want to build on an existing model's modeling. You want to copy this model.

You are only offered the option of entering a password if the original model and/or the model to be created was/is not created in a repository with single sign-on. Otherwise, administrative access is managed by means of model administrator rights.

An independent model can only be created as a copy of another independent model.

Restriction

The name of the new model must apply to the login or model administrator rules of the executing user when using in a single sign-on repository; otherwise the user cannot log-in to the new model.

Note

Copying does not produce an exact 1:1 copy of the source model. Change sets are not taken into account.

Step 1 of 4: Create a New Model

Select the source for the new model. To do this, click on Another active model.

This automatically takes you to step Select another model as a copy template.

Select a model from the list of models currently active.

Models from single sign-on repositories that you cannot log-in to due to model administrator rules are not offered for copying.
If the source model comes from a repository without single sign-on, enter the password for the model administrator in the Passwords area, as well as the password for the repository administrator for the repository that contains the selected model.
Click on Next.

How to proceed

Enter a unique name in the target repository for the new model.

Pay attention to the naming conventions and - for single sign-on - the area of applicability of the login and model administrator rules.
If you have a valid model administrator rule for the model due to the name assigned, then you can edit the change set settings.

To activate change logging in the new model, activate the Activate change logging radio button.
To make change logging anonymous in the new model, activate the Make change log anonymous radio button.
To include change sets in the export of the new model, activate the Export model with change log radio button.
Enter the desired time restriction for change logging in the Maximum storage time field.

Concerns all terminated change sets. 0 means unlimited. On reaching the specified age, a change set will be deleted, provided it is terminated.
Click on Next.

How to proceed

Check your settings for creating the new model.
Enter an administrator password to protect a repository's model without single sign-on from being accessed by administrators; repeat the password.
If everything is correct, click on Finish.

The model is created. This may take some time.
The Authorized Users/Groups tab appears for single sign-on; this shows the user rights for the new model. Login Rules and Model Administrator Rules are listed in a table.
Click on Next.
Various options then appear for you to select on the New Model Successfully Created tab:
1. If you want to set-up users for this model or make changes to other model configuration settings, then select Edit the Model Configuration.
  
  The login dialog for the Configuration Editor appears.
2. If you want to log-in to the model to e.g. change the model structure, then select Log in as Model Administrator or Log into New Model for single sign-on.
  
  The login dialog for the Innovator model editor appears.
3. If you have the user management right, then you can set up complex rules for logging-in to the model for single sign-on. To do this, select Open the User Management.
  
  User management is opened.
  
  This option only appears if the model was created in the model editor. User management can be directly accessed in the administration program.
4. If you do not want to use the other options yet, select Only Close the New Model Wizard.
  
  The wizard closes.
To open the model at a later stage, select
- in the model editor Model>Open & Login.
- in the administration program Model>Model>Open (Enter).
To edit the model's configuration at a later stage, select
- in the backstage view in the model editor, Administrative Tasks>Configure.
- in the administration program, Model>Model>Configure.
