Adjust Select Statements Dialog

This is a combined view in an ER or DB model that is formed using select statements that are linked with set operations. The dialog helps you to check or correct the order of the attributes or columns in the select statements for the formation of the desired results set.

Purpose

For a combined view that is formed using linked select statements, it is important that all select statements have the same number of attributes or columns. These must be contained in the select statements in the correct order so that they correspond to the attributes or columns of the combined view.

You can use the dialog for checking and correcting the sequence of attributes or columns in the individual select statements based on the name, type and expression. When the changes are adopted, missing attributes or columns in the combined view and its select statements are added.

Prerequisites

A combined view is open.

Call

Select the Design>Adjust>Adjust Select Statements command in a combined view's table.

Structure

The dialog consists of a table and two buttons.

  • Table

The table consists of an order column, the column for the combined view, and at least two select statement columns.

    • Order column

Specifies the order of the attributes or columns and allows you to move entire rows to a different order position using drag-and-drop.

    • Column of the combined ER view or the combined DB view

Initially, this column is filled with the attributes or columns of the modeled combined view. If a select statement has more features than the combined view, empty cells are appended at the bottom.

The cells can be moved to a different position in the order within each column.

    • Columns of the select statements

At least two columns for the select statements return their attributes or columns. Empty cells are appended at the bottom for missing features.

The cells can be moved to a different position in the order within each column.

  • Buttons

    • Apply

For each empty cell in a non-empty row, this generates a feature in the combined view or in a select statement and transfers the changes to the orders in accordance with prior cell movements.

The up-to-date data is reloaded. The dialog remains open.

    • Close

This closes the dialog with the current settings for the column of the combined view. If there are order changes that have not been adopted, a confirmation dialog appears.

Arrangement of Attributes or Columns for Transfer to the Combined View

Context

You can use the context menu of a cell to delete or change elements. The properties dialog allows you to change the name or expression of an element. Elements are deleted or modified directly in the model. Deletion is also possible for a multiple selection and opens the usual deletion dialog for user confirmation.

To achieve a union that corresponds to the desired statement of the combined view, the combined select statements must be arranged accordingly and might need to be enhanced with empty cells. The combined view is redetermined when you select Apply.

Cells can be moved in a different order within each column using drag-and-drop or with [Ctrl]+[(Nicht definierte Variable:UIVar_Menu.KeyUp)|(Nicht definierte Variable:UIVar_Menu.KeyDown)].

When using drag-and-drop, the mouse pointer indicates whether the position is permitted or not .
