Add Elements Dialog

You can use dynamic viewpoints to add relevant concepts or ignore irrelevant concepts in the dialog with regard to an increased path length or with new concepts.

Purpose

Dynamic viewpoints show how start elements are linked with neighboring concepts via specific relationships, starting from one or multiple start elements.

You can add further relevant concepts or ignore irrelevant concepts with regard to a modified path length in the  Add Elements dialog.

The ignored nodes are not taken into consideration when calculating the paths for adding or removing nodes. This avoids e.g. a reachable grouping evaluating all relevant links, thereby losing the actual focus of the diagram.

Ignored nodes are a property of the dynamic viewpoint and are shown in the Properties tool window.

Call

If further potential relevant concepts exist for a start element due to an increased path length or new concepts which have been added to the model, then the Add Elements dialog in diagram's header can be called.

Structure

The dialog consists of two lists and the OK and Abort default buttons.

The first Select all check box in the left-hand list lists all nodes which are potentially relevant in the diagram from the view of complete paths. All nodes which were marked as ignored in the diagram are listed to the right.

Clicking on the icon marks a node to be ignored. It is also possible to move an ignored nodes from right to left so that it is added again by clicking on the icon.

OK adopts entries selected in the left-hand list into the diagram and entries in the right-hand list are ignored when calculating the path. Ignored nodes are shown as the property of the diagram.

Adding Relevant Nodes

Prerequisites

In this context, relevant nodes may appear when newly-created or if they have been removed. Increasing the path length widens the context and may also lead to nodes being able to be added.

Context

If further potential concepts exist for a start element due to an increased path length or new concepts which have been added to the model, then a corresponding message appears to the left in the diagram's header and the Add Elements dialog can be called.

Select the relevant concepts in the diagram to add them. Click in the same dialog for irrelevant concepts on the icon if you no longer want to take the display completeness into consideration for these elements.

How to proceed

  1. To open the dialog to add relevant concepts, click in the diagram's header on the Add Elements icon.

The dialog of the same name appears.

  2. To add a concept to the dynamic viewpoint, activate the respective check box in the Add Elements dialog.

  3. Confirm settings in the Add Elements dialog with OK.

The selected concepts are added in the diagram.

Ignored Irrelevant Concepts

Prerequisites

Within the scope, there are nodes which can be added.

Context

Nodes can be marked as ignored in dynamic concept diagrams. The ignored nodes are not taken into consideration when calculating the paths for adding or removing nodes. This avoids e.g. a reachable grouping evaluating all links, thereby losing the actual focus of the diagram.

An ignored node can exclude multiple subsequent nodes when calculating a path. If such an ignored node is moved to the left in the dialog and added to the diagram, then this will result in multiple new nodes which can be added. It may be necessary to reopen the dialog.

Note

If you use the Remove from Diagram (Del) command to remove a node which is on a permissible path, then this node automatically becomes an ignored node. Nodes outside of the path do not become ignored nodes when removed.

If an ignored node which can be reached indirectly is added to the diagram, then this node is marked as superfluous with the smart icon. Missing intermediate nodes must be added to the diagram to fix this.

If you add an ignored node to the diagram, e.g. via drag-and-drop, then this mode is automatically removed from the list of nodes to ignore.

Note

The diagram has the Ignored Nodes property. You can use this property to directly edit the ignored nodes in the Specify Ignored Nodes for Dynamic Concept Diagrams '{Name}' dialog.

Only nodes which can be reached via the path length starting from the start elements are shown. This calculation treats the list of ignored nodes as empty, as otherwise the nodes which are already ignored would no longer be permissible.

How to proceed

  1. To open the dialog for obsolete concepts to ignore, click in the diagram's header on the Add Elements icon.

The dialog of the same name appears.

  2. To ignore a concept in the dynamic viewpoint, click on the icon after the concept's name in the left-hand list.

The concept is adopted in the list of ignored nodes.

  3. To no longer ignore a concept in the dynamic viewpoint, click on the icon for the concept in the right-hand list.

The concept is added to the list of nodes which can be added to the viewpoint.

  4. Confirm settings in the Add Elements dialog with OK.

The concepts in the ignored nodes list are not taken into consideration when calculating the paths for adding or removing nodes.

Ignored concepts are shown as Ignored Nodes properties in the diagram.
