Measures Dimensions Diagram
The measures dimensions diagram is a stereotype of the entity relationship diagram and shows the relationship between existing measures in a cube and existing dimension levels.
You can use the established MID modeling tool to create a Measures Dimensions Diagram.

Definition
A measures dimensions diagram is a stereotype of the entity relationship diagram. It portrays the relationship between a cube's existing measures and existing dimension levels. The diagram offers an alternative view to the cube diagram; the cube and the hierarchies used are the main focus.
The icon shows a diagram of cubes and dimensions.
Use
You can use the measures dimensions diagram to depict an alternative view of a submodel of the conceptual schema. This creates a view of the existing relationships between a cube and its measures and certain or all dimension levels.
Elements in the Measures Dimensions Diagram
Nodes
The following existing model elements can be shown as nodes in measures dimensions diagrams.

Cube | A cube is a special form of a view of the entity relationship model. Linking a cube with a fact set using a from clause automatically only derives the local attributes as view attributes that represent the measures of the fact set. A cube can have any number of cube dimensions. |
![]() |
Dimension | A dimension forms a quasi hierarchy of its contained dimension elements that is modeled using dimension precedences. Every level can have more than one super dimension level in this quasi hierarchy. A complete and correct dimension has precisely one bottom-most dimension level. |
![]() |
Dimension Level | A dimension level in a dimension contains identifier, display and sort attributes. In a complete model, the dimension level is linked with a dimension set of the entity relationship model. |
Edges
Edges portray relationships between a cube and dimension levels or between dimension levels (precedences) in measures dimensions diagrams.

Cube Dimensions | A cube dimension is a relationship between a cube and a dimension level. |

Dimension Precedence | A dimension precedence is a hierarchy relationship between two dimension levels. It belongs to the sublevel and references the super level. |
