Copying and Pasting Models Using the Clipboard
An administrator can copy a model from one repository into another or duplicate a model within a repository. However, copying does not produce an exact 1:1 copy of the source model.
Prerequisites
You must be logged-in as an administrator for the data repository or have sufficient model server rules in single sign-on in order to copy a model.
The target repository for copying or moving models needs to have the same version as the source repository.
Context
You can duplicate models in the Administration Program or copy them into other repositories.
Attention
When moving models, please bare in mind that a model server is a serial process: the more models stored in a repository mean the more users working parallel on these models. This then means that the processing time per model may also be extended.
If e.g. a user creates a documentation in a model, all other users in all models have to wait for them to do this! You should therefore give serious consideration as to whether models should be split into repositories.
In the Administration Program, models also contain their configuration, which comprises both model and user configuration.
You can duplicate a model in the same repository or copy a model into another repository available in the Administration Program. To do this, use the Model>Edit>Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) menu commands. If you copy the model into the same repository, it is duplicated with a unique name suffix. Deleting the source model after checking the target model will move the model.
Note
Copying does not produce an exact 1:1 copy of the source model. Change sets are not taken into account.
A unique suffix is used for the model name when duplicating; this is because the model name must be unique in the repository.
A unique suffix is used for the model name when copying if the model name already exists in the repository. The password for the model administrator is adopted when copying models.
How to proceed
-
Select the model that you want to duplicate or copy.
-
Select
Model>Edit>Copy (Ctrl+C).
The selected model is copied into a temporary file. Depending on the size of the model, this may take some time.
-
Select the target repository. (If you select the source repository, the model is duplicated.)
-
Select
Model>Edit>Paste (Ctrl+V).
The model is taken from the temporary file and inserted into the selected repository. Depending on the size of the model, this may take some time.
If the model name is not unique in the target repository, a suffix is added to it to make it unique.
(The temporary file is not deleted until the Administration Program is closed and can be reinserted immediately afterwards.)
-
Check the copied model.
-
If you want to move the model, delete the original model in the source repository in the Administration Program.
