Automatically Adapting Gateways

A gateway's flow direction can be automatically customized, depending on the incoming and outgoing flows. Set the Innovator determines type property for gateways for this.

If a gateway's direction can be determined from the number of incoming and outgoing sequence flows then the flow direction property is adjusted accordingly, as long as the Innovator determines direction property was activated.

There are four possible values for the flow direction:

• Unspecified

• Converging

• Diverging

• Mixed

As the unspecified value can be used for all possible sequence flows, the direction is only changed if this can be definitely specified. e.g. a new converging direction is made if there are various incoming and precisely one outgoing sequence flows at the gateway. If, on the other hand, the gateway has both multiple incoming and outgoing sequence flows then it is classified as mixed.

If the user wants to explicitly use the unspecified direction, they should not activate the Innovator determines direction check box.
