Searching for Elements

You can search for nodes in the hierarchy area's tree to see their details.

Purpose

You can search for nodes in the hierarchy area's tree to see their properties.

There are two options when searching for a certain node in the hierarchy area's tree:

  • Search by name component
  • Search by specific element

In particular for the visual search, you can restrict the display of the tree via the context menu with the Collapse All command. All levels of the subtree are collapsed. Only the top level will be visible upon expand.

Searching by Name Component

Prerequisites

The Align Models editor is opened and is being shown. The tree in the hierarchy area contains model elements.

Context

Start the search for a model element using a name component in the Search group in the Align Models tab.

The search starts with the node that is currently selected; however, this is not integrated into the search. This allows you to search through the tree bit by bit by clicking on Find Next (Ctrl+Page Down).

How to proceed

  1. Press [Ctrl]+[Shift]+[F] or click on the <Find in Diagram> input field in the Find group in the Align Models tab.

  2. Enter the string that you want to search for in the hierarchy area's tree.

  3. Press the [Enter] key or click on Find Next (Ctrl+Page Down).

The next node in the hierarchy area's tree that contains the name component entered by you in its displayed name is searched for. This node is selected and moved to the front.

  4. To select the node with the next hit, click on Find Next (Ctrl+Page Down).

If the string occurs in the hierarchy area's tree again, then the node with the next instance is selected.

The root node is selected if the tree is searched through top down.

Searching by Specific Element

Prerequisites

The Align Models editor is opened and is being shown. The tree in the hierarchy area contains model elements.

Context

To select an element on the basis of other interfaces (for example, the Model Contents or Details tool windows) in the result tree of a comparison, use drag-and-drop to place it into the Tree tab.

If one of the nodes in the tree represents this element, the tree is expanded to the element in question and this element is selected. If not, then a note appears saying that the element does not exist in the tree.

When you jump to the List tab, the element is selected there, too.

How to proceed

  • Drag the element to be searched for in the hierarchy area's tree and drop it on the tree.

If one of the nodes in the tree represents this element, then this node is selected. If not, then a note appears saying that the element does not exist in the tree.
