Explicit Comparison of Left-Hand and Right-Hand Singles

You can compare any two elements of the same type.

Prerequisites

Left-hand and right-hand singles with the same element type can be mapped in order to compare them with each other in the Tree tab of the hierarchy area.

Context

To enable the comparison of two elements, they must either be automatically recognized as comparable or mapped by the user.

Elements are identified based on their UUID and structural properties (name in the namespace) when comparing models. It is possible to compare two elements of the same type with each other even if they do not have the same UUID or same name in the namespace.

To do this, select the Map... context menu command for the left-hand single. In a dialog, the right-hand singles with the same element type are offered for selection.

How to proceed

  1. To compare a left-hand single and a right-hand single with the same element type, select the left-hand single that you want to map to a right-hand single in the Tree tab of the hierarchy area.

  2. Select Map... from the context menu

If an element exists that can be merged with the selected element, then a dialog appears; if it cannot be merged, then a message appears.

  3. Select the desired element and click on OK.

Both elements are given the icon in the tree; this shows that both these elements will be comparably treated when next compared.

  4. Select other element pairs that should be comparably treated in the same way.

  5. Select Align Models>Compare>Start Comparison (Ctrl+D).

The element pairs previously selected are respectively shown as a node in the tree. This node is also given an icon .

  6. Select Unmap in the context menu to split merged elements.

Nodes can be identified by the icon. Actual splitting is only carried out when the next comparison occurs.
