Getting to Know Element Properties

You primarily use the Properties tool window, (configurable) Details tool window and the Info tool window for viewing a model element's properties.

Displaying the Properties of a Model Element

If you select an element, associated information about the model element is displayed in the Properties and Details tool windows. You can open a tool window in the View>Windows>Tool Windows submenu if it is closed.

You can see information about a selected element in the Info tool window by clicking on Help>Info ([Shift]+[F1]). This information is independent of constraints which are configured or can be set for the Details window or with the display options.

An element can have more properties than the ones shown in the tool windows mentioned. Diagrams contain more information about the element's links in particular.

An Element's Properties

Properties of the selected element/s are shown in the Properties tool window in a strict structure that is based solely on the element type. You can see the element's properties, labels, access rights etc. there.

If you have selected more than one element, only common properties are shown. You can edit these properties for all elements selected.

Attention

When selecting multiple elements please take extra care for properties which have an element list as a value. The corresponding change dialog is prefilled with the current value of precisely one of the elements of the selection. If the preallocation is adopted by clicking on OK in the dialog, the other elements selected are adapted accordingly.

Detail View for an Element

The Details tool window's information structure can be configured in the model profiles. The Details area primarily provides information about how the element is used in the model structure.

The Details tool window only provides information.

Info Structure for an Element

Unlike the Properties tool window, the Info tool window also lists properties which are not set to Visible in the configuration. You can also find information about the element's history and special information, such as number of specification texts.
