Deleting Elements from the Model

The deletion of model elements from a model can be undone immediately as long as no actions of other users prevent this; however, this constitutes a significant intervention in the model. An element which is to be deleted may be an existence prerequisite for other model elements; these will then also be listed for deletion.

Prerequisites

You have access rights for the model element to be deleted. The model element is in Edit Mode.

Context

When a model element is removed from a diagram, a differentiation is made between removing it from a diagram and deleting it from the model. Two separate menu commands are always available for these actions.

Model elements can be deleted from the model. If the model element to be deleted is an existence prerequisite for other elements, these elements are also listed for deletion.

The Delete from Model dialog lists the elements which will be affected by the deletion. You can delete elements directly from the model or add them to the result region.

The following menu commands are available by default

  • In the Start tab in the Edit group

  • In the Design tab in the Edit group

  • In the selected elements' context menu

Attention

The deletion of model elements can be undone immediately as long as no actions of other users prevent this; however, this constitutes a significant intervention in the model. If it is not possible to undo the deletion due to subsequent actions, you can only recover the deleted elements by importing model fragments that were previously saved in a file.

It is normally only possible to delete elements and not remove them from the model using the Model Content tool window.

Model elements are only deleted after a security prompt which lists all the elements affected by the deletion.

How to proceed

  1. Select the model element.

  2. Select the Edit>Delete from Model (Shift+Del) menu command in the Start or Design tab.

The dialog of the same name appears. All elements which are also deleted by the action are listed.

  3. If you want to transfer all listed elements to the result region without deleting them, click on Add to Result Region.

All elements listed are added to the result region. The dialog is closed.

  4. If you want to delete all listed elements from the model, click on Delete from Model.

All listed elements are deleted from the model. The dialog is closed.
