Getting Started with the Enterprise Suite

How to proceed

1. Activate the Start tab in the ribbon.

   

   This tab contains the New group.

2. Activate the  New Element button from the New group.

   A menu with templates for new elements appears.

3. Select the Process template from the process sub group in the menu.

   A process diagram is created and opened in the document area. If Innovator initially asks you to select an owner for the process, then you should select the Processes and Collaborations package (folder).

   The process diagram has a frame for the process and the steps involved in it. Rename the process by selecting the name field and entering a new name.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. Drag the  Result icon from the gallery with the left mouse button pressed to a free point in the process.

3. Let go of the mouse where you want to position the start event.

   The event is created without a name to start with. You can change the name straight away.

How to proceed

1. Select the event you just created.

   There are two connection icons to the right of the event in the carousel: the sequence flow and the data association.

2. Select the sequence flow, hold the left mouse button pressed and drag the sequence flow to where you want to create a task.

3. Release the mouse button.

   A list of elements that you can create as the sequence flow's target appears.

4. Select the task from the list.

   A new task including a sequence flow between the start event and the task is created. You can change the name of the task straight away.

How to proceed

1. Select the task you just created.

   As before, there are two connection icons to the right of the task in the carousel: the sequence flow and the data association.

2. Select the sequence flow, keep the left mouse button pressed and press the [Ctrl] key at the same time; drag the sequence flow over the right or bottom edge of the process frame. You will see that the process automatically changes size and the process then grows to fit where you want it.

3. Release the mouse button.

   A list of elements that you can create as the sequence flow's target appears.

4. Select the task from the list.

   A new task including a sequence flow between the start event and the task is created. You can change the name of the task straight away.

How to proceed

1. To make room for the new element, move the mouse pointer to the position above or below the sequence flow where you want to insert the gateway; press and hold down the right mouse button and move the mouse to the right.

   All elements to the right of the mouse pointer are moved.

2. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

3. Select the  Gateway icon from the gallery.

4. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon to the sequence flow in which you want to insert the gateway; release the mouse button when the sequence flow is highlighted.

   The sequence flow is split and the gateway is set between both sequence flows. You can now create further sequence flows with subsequent elements on the gateway.

How to proceed

1. You can normally use an element's context menu to quickly jump between the available element types; for a gateway e.g. between an exclusive OR and an AND, i.e. a fork.

2. Open the gateway's context menu.

   The mini toolbar with all permitted gateway types is situated above or below the context menu:

   

3. Select the icon which represents an exclusive gateway.

   Your gateway immediately becomes an exclusive gateway.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the  Time (event definition) icon to the start event you just created; release the mouse button when the start event is highlighted.

   The event has an event definition that can be used throughout the model. You can change the name of the event definition straight away. You have now created a timer event definition, i.e. you have modeled that your process starts as soon as the timer event begins.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab from the Diagram Tools context group if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the  Horizontal Process icon to the task you just created; release the mouse button when the task is highlighted.

   A new process is created. The task becomes the call activity of the newly-created process. A on the task shows that a process is stored.

3. Open the Go to submenu in the task's context menu to jump to the newly created process. The last entry in the menu shows the diagram you can define the process in. Select the bottom-most entry.

   The diagram for the newly-created process is opened. The process diagram has a frame for the process and the steps involved in it.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the  Lane icon from the gallery to the process area and release the mouse button.

   A first lane is created directly below the process. We will now create a second lane as you will often want to be able to split a process' tasks into various areas.

3. Drag another Lane from the gallery into the process or via the existing lane, keeping the left mouse button pressed.

   You will see three arrows that enable you to insert the new lane corresponding to the arrow direction. You can superordinate the lane or insert it above or below the existing lane.

4. Hold the left mouse button down and go with your mouse pointer to the arrow pointing up and release the mouse button.

   The new lane is inserted directly above the lane that was just created. If you did not select any of the arrows, then the new lane is added below the highlighted lane and there is a hierarchy between the lanes.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Start tab in the ribbon.

   

   This tab contains the New Diagram group.

2. Activate the  New Diagram button from the New group.

   The gallery with templates for new diagrams appears.

3. Select the Organizational Chart template from the gallery.

   An organizational chart is created and opened in the document area. You can use this diagram for creating organizational units, positions and employees and link them with each other.

   Tip

   You can create various types of diagrams in Innovator models in this way. The types of diagram templates available in the gallery primarily depend on the model template used and the user role selected in a model.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. Select the  Organizational Unit icon from the gallery

3. Drag the icon with the left mouse button pressed to a free point in the diagram.

4. Let go of the mouse where you want to position the element.

   The organizational unit is created. You can change the name straight away.

How to proceed

1. Select the organizational unit just created. You should now see a connection icon for a hierarchical subordination to the right.

2. Select the subordination, hold the left mouse button pressed and drag the subordinate relationship where you want to create a position.

3. Release the mouse button.

   A list of elements that you can create as the hierarchical subordination's target appears.

4. Select the  Position from the list.

   A new position is created below the organizational unit. You can now change the name of the position.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Start tab in the ribbon.

   

   This tab contains the New Diagram group.

2. Activate the  New Diagram button from the New group.

   The gallery with templates for new diagrams appears.

3. Select the Decision Requirements Diagramtemplate from the gallery.

   A Decision Requirements Diagram is created and opened in the document area. You can use this diagram for creating decisions, business knowledges, information, information sources and decision services and link them with each other.

   Tip

   You can create various types of diagrams in Innovator models in this way. The types of diagram templates available in the gallery primarily depend on the model template used and the user role selected in a model.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. Select the  Decision icon from the gallery.

3. Drag the icon with the left mouse button pressed to a free point in the diagram.

4. Let go of the mouse where you want to position the element.

   The Decision is created. You can change the name straight away.

How to proceed

1. Select the Decision in the diagram.

   The selected Decision is shown with a blue selection frame. There are various semitransparent icons on the right-hand side that are highlighted if you hover the mouse over them – this is called the carousel.

2. Select the Knowledge Requirement icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon to a free point in the diagram.

   When dragging, the position of the Knowledge Requirement that will be created is indicated by a blue rubber band line.

4. Release the left mouse button on a free point in the diagram.

   A drop-down list with the partner elements permissible for this type of relationship appears. A  Decision Service and  Business Knowledge Model are offered as elements in the list.

5. Left mouse click on the  Business Knowledge Model entry.

   The Decision's Business Knowledge Model and Knowledge Requirement are created; the Business Knowledge Model is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

How to proceed

1. Select the Decision just created. You should now see a connection icon for an Information Requirement to the right.

2. Select the Information Requirement, hold the left mouse button pressed and drag the Input Data where you want to create a position.

3. Release the mouse button.

   A list of elements that you can create as the Information Requirement's target appears.

4. Select the  Input Data from the list.

   An Input Data is created. You can now change the name of the Input Data.

How to proceed

1. Select the Decision just created.

2. Click on in the Properties tool window for the Variable Type property.

   The Determine variable type for Input Data '0' dialog appears.

3. To assign a Structure Definition, click on the structure element with the structure definitions to the left in the tree, select the type on the right and confirm with OK.

   The type is assigned Decision.

How to proceed

1. Double-click on the Decision you previously created.

   The table editor for boxed expressions opens.

2. Click with the right mouse button in the Empty Expression block and select the  Context in the context menu.

   A Context block is created.

3. Click with the right mouse button in the context's Empty Expression block and select the  Context again in the context menu.

   A Context block in the Context block above is created.

4. Click with the right mouse button in the entry block and select the  Context Entry (Ctrl+OemPlus) in the context menu.

   The Context Entry is created. You can create the decision logic structure in this way.

5. Click with the right mouse button in the Empty Expression block of the context entry and select the  Function Definition (FEEL) in the context menu.

   A Function Definition is created.

6. Click with the right mouse button in the () function block and select Modify (F2).

   The Edit Function Parameters dialog appears.

7. To create a function parameter, click on Create.

   A parameter is created and can be edited.

8. To type a function parameter, click on Set Type....

   The Determine type for '0' element dialog appears.

9. To assign a FEEL type, click on FEEL Types in the tree, select the type on the right and confirm with OK.

   The type is assigned to the parameter.

10. Repeat from step 7 for further function parameters if required.

    Close parameter editing by clicking on Close.

    You have now created a FEEL function definition with typed parameters within a context structure.

How to proceed

1. (Optional) Select one or more model elements in the diagram that you want to edit their specification with the left mouse button.

   If you have not selected a diagram element, Innovator assumes that the diagram itself should be given a specification.

2. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Edit group, which contains the Specification (F3) icon. If this icon is inactive, then you have selected an element that textual specifications cannot be created for.

3. Click on the Specification (F3) icon.

   A new window opens for each selected element in the right-hand half of the document area; it shows all available specification texts for this element.

4. Enter the text in the respective text definition.

   The name of the text definition to be edited is shown in red if your changes have been made.

5. Format the text using the Text tab or the context menu.

6. Close the text with Text>Specification>Save (Ctrl+S).

   The name of the edited text definition is shown in black again if the save was successful.

7. Close the window with the specification texts once you have finished editing.

How to proceed

1. (Optional) Select one or more diagram elements that you want to comment on with [Ctrl] and the left mouse button.

2. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

3. Click on the Comment icon.

   If you selected parts of the diagram in part 1, a comment is created for all selected diagram elements. It initially contains a default text, is positioned in the middle and linked with all selected diagram elements by a dotted line. The comment is placed left above this element if only one diagram element was selected.

4. If you missed out step 1, move the mouse in the direction of the element you want to comment on.

   The comment icon is "attached" to your mouse pointer and follows the movement of the mouse.

5. Click with the left mouse button on the diagram element you want to comment on.

   The comment is created for the diagram element you clicked on. It initially contains a default text, is positioned top-left above this element and is linked with this by a dotted line.

6. Overwrite the default comment text directly with your own comment. Use the [Enter] key for hard returns.

7. To finish the comment, click on [Ctrl]+[Enter] or [(Nicht definierte Variable:UIVar_Menu.KeyTab)].

Another way to proceed using the context menu:

1. Select one or more diagram elements that you want to make a comment for and press the right mouse button to open the context menu for this selection.

2. Click on  New Comment.

   A comment is created for all selected diagram elements. It initially contains a default text, is positioned in the middle and linked with all selected diagram elements by a dotted line. The comment is placed left above this element if only one diagram element was selected.

3. Overwrite the default comment text directly with your own comment. Use the [Enter] key for hard returns.

4. To finish the comment, click on [Ctrl]+[Enter] or [(Nicht definierte Variable:UIVar_Menu.KeyTab)].

How to proceed

1. Activate the Start tab in the ribbon.

   

   This tab contains the New group.

2. Activate the New Diagram button from the New group.

   The gallery with templates for new diagrams appears.

3. Select the Use Case Diagram template from the gallery.

   An empty use case diagram is created and opened in the document area. You can now use this diagram to create actors and their use cases.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. Click on the actor icon in the Create Diagram Content group in the gallery.

3. Move the mouse over the diagram.

   The actor icon is now "attached" to your mouse pointer and follows the movement of the mouse.

4. With the left mouse button, click again where you want to position the actor.

   The actor is created and is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

Alternative procedure:

1. As above

2. Click on the actor icon in the Create Diagram Content group in the gallery and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. Move the mouse with the left mouse button pressed in the diagram.

   The actor icon is "attached" to your mouse pointer again and follows the movement of the mouse.

4. Let go of the left mouse button where you want to position the actor.

   The actor is created and is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

How to proceed

1. Select the actor in the diagram.

   The selected actor has a blue frame around it. There are various semitransparent icons on the right-hand side that are highlighted if you hover the mouse over them – this is called the carousel.

2. Select the association icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon to a free point in the diagram.

   The position of the association that will be created is shown when you drag the icon by a blue rubber band line.

4. Release the left mouse button on a free point in the diagram.

   A drop-down list with the partner elements permissible for this type of relationship appears. A  use case is offered as the only element in the list in this case.

5. Left mouse click on this entry.

   The use case and association to the actor are created; the use case is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Start tab in the ribbon.

   

   This tab contains the New group.

2. Activate the New Diagram button from the New group.

   The gallery with templates for new diagrams appears.

3. Select the Class Diagram template from the gallery.

   An empty class diagram is created and opened in the document area. You can now use this diagram to create classes, interfaces or other classifiers.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. Select the Class icon from the gallery.

3. Move the mouse over the diagram.

   The class icon is now "attached" to your mouse pointer and follows the movement of the mouse.

4. Click where you want the class to go with the left mouse button pressed.

   The class is created and is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

The alternative way of creating an actor (see above) is also possible in this step.

How to proceed

Using the context menu:

1. Right-click on the class you want to create the attribute for.

   The selected class has a blue frame around it. The context menu for classes in the class diagram appears. The mini toolbar can be found above the context menu:

   

   The colored bar at the top contains icons for commands for creating elements that can be content for the selected class, e.g. Attribute, Operation or (inner) Class.

2. Click on the Attribute icon.

   The attribute is created within the class and is added to the class' «Attribute» section's content. It is initially given a default name that you can immediately change.

Another way to proceed using the ribbon:

1. Select the class in the diagram with the left mouse button.

   The selected class has a blue frame around it.

2. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

3. Open the  Properties submenu in this group.

   The submenu contains icons for commands for creating elements that can be content for the selected class, e.g. Attribute or Operation.

4. Click on the Attribute icon.

   The attribute is created within the class and is added to the class' «Attribute» section's content. It is initially given a default name that you can immediately change.

How to proceed

1. Select the operation in the class with the left mouse button.

   The selected operation has a blue frame around it.

2. In the context menu of the operation, select the command Edit Declaration or use the shortcut [Ctrl]+[F2].

   The dialog for editing the declaration opens. The multi-row editing field initially contains the name of the operation and an empty parameter list, e.g. "Operation()".

3. In the parentheses, enter the name of the first parameter and then a colon.

   The input help opens and shows all known classifiers in the model in alphabetical order as this parameter's type:

   

   Entering the first few letters shortens the input help to the types that still match step-for-step.

4. Select the type you are searching for in the input help list.

   The parameter's type is adopted in the editing field after the colon.

5. (Optional) Enter a comma and repeat steps 3 and 4 to define more parameters and their type.

6. (Optional) Before the parameter name, enter the key word out or inout to define an output or input/output parameter.

7. (Optional) Enter a colon after the closing parenthesis and repeat step 4 to define the operation's return type.

8. Click on or use the shortcut [Ctrl]+[Enter] in the edit field to apply the declaration.

How to proceed

1. Select the class in the diagram

   The selected class has a blue frame around it. There are various semitransparent icons on the right-hand side that are highlighted if you hover the mouse over them – this is called the carousel.

   

2. Select the association icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon in the direction of the class to be connected.

   The position of the association that will be created is shown when you drag the icon by a blue rubber band line.

4. Let go of the mouse on the class you want to create the association to.

   The association is created and initially contains the properties preallocated in the Association template. You can immediately change these properties using the  Properties tool window or the association's context menu.

How to proceed

1. Select the class you want to create an inheritance relationship for with the left mouse button.

   The selected class has a blue frame around it. The carousel appears on the right-hand side, as was the case in the previous step.

2. Select the generalization icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon in the direction of the class to be connected.

   The position of the inheritance relationship that will be created is shown when you drag the icon by a blue rubber band line.

4. Let go of the mouse on the class your class should inherit from.

   The inheritance relationship is created and displayed in the diagram.

Dependency relationships are created in the same way as generalizations, by using one of the arrow icons (, , etc.) in the carousel. You can find out how the dependency relationships differ from each other in the tool tip for the respective arrow icon.

How to proceed

1. (Optional) Select a BehavioredClassifier (class, component, or similar).

2. Activate the Start tab in the ribbon.

   

   This tab contains the New group.

3. Activate the New Diagram button from the New group.

   The gallery with templates for new diagrams appears.

4. Select the Activity template from the gallery.

5. If you omitted step 1, a selection dialog prompts you to select a suitable BehavioredClassifier. Select an existing BehavioredClassifer or use the Create New Element button to create a required BehavioredClassifer that does not yet exist. In this case, a wizard guides you through the necessary steps.

If you selected a classifier in step 1 or 5, then a new activity diagram is created and opened in the document area; it initially only contains the activity itself but no details about this activity. You can now use this diagram for displaying individual actions of this activity.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. Select the Execute Instruction icon from the gallery.

3. Move the mouse in the diagram within the activity's frame.

   The action icon is "attached" to your mouse pointer and follows the movement of the mouse. If the mouse pointer is outside of this frame it then changes to an icon to show that you cannot create an action outside of the activity.

4. Click the left mouse button where you want to position the action.

   The action is created and is initially shows a default expression. You can immediately change this.

How to proceed

If the subsequent action already exists in the diagram:

1. Select an action in the diagram.

   The selected action has a blue frame around it. There are various semitransparent icons on the right-hand side that are highlighted if you hover the mouse over them – this is called the carousel.

2. Select the control flow edge icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon in the direction of the action to be connected.

   The position of the control flow edge that will be created is shown when you drag the icon by a blue rubber band line.

4. Let go of the mouse on the action you want to connect using the control flow edge.

   The control flow edge is created. As with almost all model elements, it has a logical name; however, this is not relevant for the modeling and is not visible in the diagram. You can immediately change the properties of the control flow edge using the  Properties tool window or the edge's context menu.

Another way to proceed if the subsequent action does not exist in the diagram yet:

1. Select an action in the diagram.

   The selected action has a blue frame around it. There are various semitransparent icons on the right-hand side that are highlighted if you hover the mouse over them – this is called the carousel.

2. Select the control flow edge icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon to a free point in the diagram.

   The position of the control flow edge that will be created is shown when you drag the icon by a blue rubber band line.

4. Release the left mouse button on a free point in the diagram.

   A drop-down list with the permissible successors for the selected action appears. The list contains various actions and "Pseudo Nodes" (fork, split etc.).

5. Click with the left mouse button on the entry you want (e.g. on  Execute statement).

   The action and the control flow edge to this action are created; the action initially has a default text. You can immediately change this.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. Select the Data Store Node icon from the gallery to show that data should be stored persistently, or select the Central Buffer Node icon to show that the data should only be temporarily buffered during execution of the activity.

3. Move the mouse in the diagram within the activity's frame.

   The data store or buffer icon is "attached" to your mouse pointer and follows the movement of the mouse. If the mouse pointer is outside of this frame it then changes to an icon to show that you cannot create a data store/buffer outside of the activity.

4. Click the left mouse button where you want to position the node.

   The data store/buffer node is created. As the data type has not been specified yet, the node initially only shows the key word «datastore» or «centralBuffer». You can change the data type directly using the  Properties tool window or with the Assign Type command in the data store/buffer node's context menu.

Create an object flow from the direction of the writing action to express that a action writes data:

1. Select the writing action in the diagram.

   The selected action has a blue frame around it. There are various semitransparent icons on the right-hand side that are highlighted if you hover the mouse over them – this is called the carousel.

2. Select the Object Flow Edge icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon in the direction of the data store/buffer node to be connected.

   The position of the object flow edge that will be created is shown when you drag the icon by a blue rubber band line.

4. Release the mouse button over the node that the object flow edge should flow into.

   The object flow edge is created. As with almost all model elements, it has a logical name; however, this is not relevant for the modeling and is not visible in the diagram. You can immediately change the properties of the control flow edge using the  Properties tool window or the edge's context menu. An output pin of the same type as the linked data store/buffer node automatically appears for the writing action.

Create an object flow in the direction of the writing action to express that a action reads data:

1. Select the data store/buffer node in the diagram.

   The selected node has a blue frame around it. There is a semitransparent icon on the right-hand side; if you hover over it with the mouse it is highlighted – this is called the carousel.

2. Select the Object Flow Edge icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon in the direction of the reading action.

   The position of the object flow edge that will be created is shown when you drag the icon by a blue rubber band line.

4. Release the mouse button over the action that the object flow edge should flow into.

   The object flow edge is created. As with almost all model elements, it has a logical name; however, this is not relevant for the modeling and is not visible in the diagram. You can immediately change the properties of the control flow edge using the  Properties tool window or the edge's context menu. An input pin of the same type as the linked data store/buffer node automatically appears for the reading action.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. Select the Call Operation icon from the gallery.

3. Move the mouse in the diagram within the activity's frame.

   As above, the action icon is "attached" to your mouse pointer and follows the movement of the mouse.

4. Click the left mouse button where you want to position the operation call.

   The Prerequisite dialog is opened and contains the operations already defined in your model.

5. Select an existing operation or use the Create New Element button to create a missing operation. In this case, a wizard guides you through the necessary steps.

6. Confirm your selection by clicking on the OK button.

   The call action is created and labeled with the name of the called operation. A respective input or output pin is automatically created at the call action for each of the operation's parameters.

Another way to proceed by converting an existing action into an operation call:

1. Select the action you want to convert into a call action with the left mouse button.

   The selected action has a blue frame around it.

2. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Model Elements group.

3. Open the Refactor submenu in this group and click on the  Change Element Type command there.

   The wizard for converting model elements is opened.

4. Select the  (call operation) entry in step 1. Click on the Next button to go to step 2.

   You can set that the action should be converted into an operation in this way. The Prerequisite dialog is then opened; it contains operations that are already defined in your model.

5. Select an existing operation or use the Create New Element button to create a missing operation in step 2. Another wizard then takes you through the steps necessary for this.

6. Confirm your selection by clicking on the OK button.

   The wizard for converting model elements is ready for conversion and gives a brief summary of the effects expected by the conversion.

7. Start the conversion by clicking on Finish.

   The action is converted into a call action and labeled with the name of the called operation. A respective input or output pin is automatically created at the call action for each of the operation's parameters.

How to proceed

1. (Optional) Select a BehavioredClassifier (class, component, or similar).

2. Activate the Start tab in the ribbon.

   

   This tab contains the New group.

3. Activate the New Diagram button from the New group.

   The gallery with templates for new diagrams appears.

4. Select the interaction template from the gallery.

5. If you omitted step 1, a selection dialog prompts you to select a suitable BehavioredClassifier. Select an existing BehavioredClassifer or use the Create New Element button to create a required BehavioredClassifer that does not yet exist. In this case, a wizard guides you through the necessary steps.

If you selected a classifier in step 1 or 5, then a new sequence diagram is created and opened in the document area; it initially only contains the interaction itself but no details about this interaction. You can now use this diagram for creating communication partners as lifelines and displaying communication between these partners.

How to proceed

1. Select the vertical (dashed) part of the lifeline which the operation should be called from with the left mouse button.

   The selected action has a blue frame around it. There are various semitransparent icons on the right-hand side that are highlighted if you hover the mouse over them – this is called the carousel.

2. Select one of the Synchronous Call icons from the carousel or Asynchronous Call and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon toward the lifeline at which an operation is to be called.

   The position of the message edge that will be created is shown when you drag the icon by a blue rubber band line. If the mouse pointer is not on a lifeline then it changes to an icon to show that you cannot create an operation call at this point.

4. Let go of the left mouse button over the lifeline you want to send the operation call to.

   The Prerequisite dialog is opened and contains the operations already defined in your model.

5. Select an existing operation or use the Create New Element button to create a missing operation. In this case, a wizard guides you through the necessary steps.

6. Confirm your selection by clicking on the OK button.

   The operation call is created and labeled with the name of the called operation, including the name of all parameters of this operation.

How to proceed

1. (Optional) Select one or more model elements in the diagram that you want to edit their specification with the left mouse button.

   If you have not selected a diagram element, Innovator assumes that the diagram itself should be given a specification.

2. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Edit group, which contains the Specification (F3) icon. If this icon is inactive, then you have selected an element that textual specifications cannot be created for.

3. Click on the Specification (F3) icon.

   A new window opens for each selected element in the right-hand half of the document area; it shows all available specification texts for this element.

4. Enter the text in the respective text definition.

   The name of the text definition to be edited is shown in red if your changes have been made.

5. Format the text using the Text tab or the context menu.

6. Close the text with Text>Specification>Save (Ctrl+S).

   The name of the edited text definition is shown in black again if the save was successful.

7. Close the window with the specification texts once you have finished editing.

How to proceed

1. (Optional) Select one or more diagram elements that you want to comment on with [Ctrl] and the left mouse button.

2. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

3. Click on the Comment icon.

   If you selected parts of the diagram in part 1, a comment is created for all selected diagram elements. It initially contains a default text, is positioned in the middle and linked with all selected diagram elements by a dotted line. The comment is placed left above this element if only one diagram element was selected.

4. If you missed out step 1, move the mouse in the direction of the element you want to comment on.

   The comment icon is "attached" to your mouse pointer and follows the movement of the mouse.

5. Click with the left mouse button on the diagram element you want to comment on.

   The comment is created for the diagram element you clicked on. It initially contains a default text, is positioned top-left above this element and is linked with this by a dotted line.

6. Overwrite the default comment text directly with your own comment. Use the [Enter] key for hard returns.

7. To finish the comment, click on [Ctrl]+[Enter] or [(Nicht definierte Variable:UIVar_Menu.KeyTab)].

Another way to proceed using the context menu:

1. Select one or more diagram elements that you want to make a comment for and press the right mouse button to open the context menu for this selection.

2. Click on  New Comment.

   A comment is created for all selected diagram elements. It initially contains a default text, is positioned in the middle and linked with all selected diagram elements by a dotted line. The comment is placed left above this element if only one diagram element was selected.

3. Overwrite the default comment text directly with your own comment. Use the [Enter] key for hard returns.

4. To finish the comment, click on [Ctrl]+[Enter] or [(Nicht definierte Variable:UIVar_Menu.KeyTab)].

How to proceed

1. Activate the Start tab in the ribbon.

   

   This tab contains the New group.

2. Activate the  New Diagram button from the New group.

   The gallery with templates for new diagrams appears.

3. Select the Entity Relationship Diagram template from the gallery.

   An empty entity relationship diagram is created and opened in the document area. You can now use this diagram to create entities and their relationships.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Design tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. Drag the Entity icon from the gallery of the Create Diagram Content group to the diagram area with the left mouse button pressed.

3. Let go of the mouse where you want to position the entity.

   The entity is created and is initially given a default name.

4. Enter the name and confirm with the [Enter] key.

   The selected entity has a blue frame around it. There are various semitransparent icons on the right-hand side that are highlighted if you hover the mouse over them – this is called the carousel.

   

5. Select the 1 : C (relationship) icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

6. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon to a free point in the diagram.

   The position of the association that will be created is shown when you drag the icon by a blue rubber band line.

7. Release the left mouse button on a free point in the diagram.

   A drop-down list with the partner elements permissible for this type of relationship appears. An entity is the only element shown in the list in this case.

8. Left mouse click on this entry.

   The entity and the relationship for the entity first created are created; the entity is initially assigned a default name. You can immediately change this.

How to proceed

1. Double-click on an entity.

   The table editor opens with three tabs: Entity Attribute, Unique Key and Foreign Key.

2. Click in the row below which you want to create a new element or use drag-and-drop afterwards to drag it to the correct position.

3. Click in the bottom row marked by the asterisk.

   A corresponding element is created in a new row below the selected row.

4. Click in an editing field in the table.

   The field is active.

5. Change the field's value by inputting text or by making a selection from the list of values provided.

   The target element's property has been modified.

6. To edit a unique key, double-click on the row marker in front of a unique key.

   The table editor for the unique key opens.

7. Click in the bottom row marked by the asterisk.

   The Create new using template dialog opens.

8. Select one or more attributes of the entity as part of the key and click on OK.

   The selected attributes are part of the key.

How to proceed

   This tab contains the Map Model group.

2. Select Extras>Map Model>Mapping.

   The configured Mapping Operations are shown in a drop-down list.

3. Select the Map DB schema to ER model mapping process.

   The Selection elements editor with the left-hand area for Target model and the right-hand area for the Mapping appears.

4. Drag the ER diagram created at the top and drop it in the Selection elements area.

5. Select Mapping>Map Model>Determine Source Elements.

   The engineering action starts and takes some time. A progress window appears. The Calculated Source Elements dialog appears once the calculation has been made.

6. Click on Add to Selection.

   The calculated source elements are added to the Selection elements area.

7. Select Mapping>Map Model>Preview.

   The engineering action starts and takes some time. A progress window appears. The existing modifications are highlighted in the right-hand area upon simulation.

8. Activate the Mapping>Filter>Show All switch if you want to see more than just the modified elements.

   Elements that are not affected by the mapping are also shown.

9. Click on  Close preview.

   The preview is closed.

10. Select Mapping>Map Model>Execute.

    The engineering action starts and takes some time. A progress window appears. The mapped elements are shown in the Target model area.

How to proceed

1. Select the database schema in the model that you want to export.

2. Select Import/Export>Export>(Nicht definierte Variable:UIVar_Menu.DdlFile).

   The Export DDL File dialog appears.

3. Select the appropriate configuration for the database from the DDL Configuration drop-down list.

   The default values or last settings of the user for the selected database type appear in the Options area.

4. Enter the path and name of the output file in the Output File input field or select the file using the Select... button.

5. To define the content and format of the DDL file, activate the corresponding check boxes.

6. Confirm settings with OK.

   The selected DB schema is exported as a DDL file with these definitions.

   The generated DDL file and an XML log file are output to the specified directory.

   A dialog informs you about the result of the export.

   The dialog displays a link to the output file and information about the generation of the DDL file.

   You can import the created DDL file into an existing relational database.

How to proceed

1. If you want to compare a modeled database schema with the content of a relational database, establish a connection to the database and import its comparison information.

   Select Import/Export>Import>Relational Database.

   The Database Import Wizard appears.

   Click on  to create a database connection. Make all required specifications about the desired connection on the Connection and Advanced tabs.

   To test the configured data connection, click on Check Connection.

   If the test is successful, click on the Next button.

   The wizard jumps to the next step. A connection is made to the configured database selected in the database connection. The database objects from the schema of the relevant relational database are listed.

   To select the database objects that you want to import from the connected database, activate the relevant check boxes and click on Next.

   The wizard jumps to the next processing step, where you select the import variant. To compare the imported database schema with the modeled schema, click the Advanced import button.

   The wizard closes and you are connected to the database.

   The  DB Manager opens and the Database Connection ribbon tab is active. A list of the database objects from the schema of the relational database is displayed on the left-hand side.

2. If you wish to compare a modeled database schema with the content of a DDL file, perform a DDL import.

   Select Import/Export>Import>DDL File.

   The DDL Import Wizard appears. To select a DDL file, click on . The Open dialog appears. Select the DDL file and confirm with Open. The DDL file's path is shown.

   Select a database schema for the comparison and click on Next.

   The wizard jumps to the next step. All available database objects in the DDL file are displayed in the wizard.

   To select the database objects that you want to compare from the DDL file, activate the relevant check boxes and click on Next.

   To open the  DB Manager editor for the comparison, click on Advanced Import.

   The wizard closes.

   The  DB Manager opens and the Database Connection ribbon tab is active. A list of the database objects from the DDL file is displayed on the left-hand side.

3. If the target package is not yet preallocated or if you wish to select another schema as target, select this from the drop-down list at the top right in the editor.

   All database elements found in the schema are shown in the list on the right-hand side.

4. To select a database element you want to show the differences for, activate the relevant check box.

5. To show the differences, select the toggle command Database Connection>Source>Compare with Model.

   All differences between the selected elements from the DDL file and/or the relational database and the existing database schema in the model determined and visualized in the editor. The differences are shown in the left-hand list of imported elements and in the list of subelements in the bottom area of the editor in a different color and with a tool tip. The elements that already exist in the target schema are displayed in Black, non-existent elements are displayed in Green, elements with different properties and subelements are displayed in Blue, and deleted subelements are displayed in Red.

How to proceed

1. Select Import/Export>Import>Database.

   The Database Import Wizard appears.

2. Click on  to create a database connection. Make all required specifications about the desired connection on the Connection and Advanced tabs.

3. To test the configured data connection, click on Check Connection.

4. If the test is successful, click on Next.

   The wizard jumps to the next step. A connection is made to the configured database selected in the database connection. The database objects from the schema of the relevant relational database are listed.

5. To select the database objects that you want to import from the connected database, activate the relevant check boxes and click on Next.

   The wizard jumps to the next processing step, where you select the import variant.

6. To import a database schema, click on the Standard Import button.

   The wizard jumps to the next step. The database elements of the previously selected database objects are offered for selection.

7. Select the database elements that you want to import into your model. Then click on Next to select the target package and carry out the import.

8. Select the target package into which you want to import the database objects and then click on Import.

   The wizard closes. The selected database objects are imported into the selected target package and displayed in the DB Manager editor.

How to proceed

1. In the model, select the database schema that you want to import.

2. Select Import/Export>Import>(Nicht definierte Variable:UIVar_Menu.DdlFile).

   The DDL Import Wizard for selecting the file to be imported appears.

3. To select a DDL file, click on .

   The Open dialog appears.

4. Select the DDL file and confirm with Open.

   The DDL file's path is shown.

5. In the model, select the target package into which you want to import the tables of the DDL file and click on Next.

   The wizard jumps to the next step. All database objects available for import in the DDL file are displayed in the wizard.

6. To select the database objects that you want to import from the DDL file, activate the relevant check boxes and click on Next.

7. To select the import variant, click on Standard Import.

   The wizard jumps to the next step.

8. Select the database elements that you want to import into the target package.

9. To import the selected database elements, click on Import.

   The selected database elements are imported into the target package and displayed in the DB Manager editor.

   You can see information and errors issued during the import in the Info tool window. Read these through to see what the import has created and problems that may have occurred throughout the import.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Extras tab in the ribbon if this is not the active tab.

   This tab contains the Map Model group.

2. Select Extras>Map Model>Mapping.

   The configured Mapping Operations are shown in a drop-down list.

3. Select the mapping process Map Oracle DB schema to ER model.

   The Mapping editor appears, with the left-hand area for the Selection elements and the right-hand area for the Target model.

4. Drag the DB schema imported above from the model tree and drop it into the Selection elements area.

5. Select Mapping>Map Model>Determine Source Elements.

   The engineering action starts and takes some time. A progress window appears. The Calculated Source Elements dialog appears once the calculation has been made.

6. Click on Add to Selection.

   The calculated source elements are added to the Selection elements area.

7. Select Mapping>Map Model>Preview.

   The role is created and is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

2. From the carousel, select the Link icon and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon to a free point in the diagram.

   The position of the link that will be created is shown when you drag the icon by a blue rubber band line.

4. Release the left mouse button on a free point in the diagram.

   A drop-down list with the partner elements permissible for this type of relationship appears. The business process will be available in the list, alongside other options.

5. Left mouse click on this entry.

   The business process and the link to the role are created; the business process is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

How to proceed

1. Select a business process in the diagram.

   The selected business process is outlined with a blue frame. There are various semitransparent icons on the right-hand side that are highlighted if you hover the mouse over them – this is called the carousel.

   

2. Select the Triggering icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

3. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon onto the business process to be connected.

   When dragging, the position of the relationship that will be created is indicated by a blue rubber band line.

4. Let go of the mouse button over the business process which you want to create the connection to.

How to proceed

3. Select the Application Usage View template from the gallery.

   An empty Application Usage View is created and opened in the document area. You can now use this diagram to describe how components and services are used at the application level of business processes or other components.

2. Select the  Component icon from the gallery.

3. Move the mouse over the diagram.

   The component icon is now "attached" to your mouse pointer and follows the movement of the mouse.

4. Left-click where you want to place the component.

   The component is created and is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

The alternative procedure for creating a role (see above) is, of course, also possible in this step.

   When dragging, the position of the realization that will be created is indicated by a blue rubber band line.

4. Release the mouse button at a free point in the diagram.

   A drop-down list with the partner elements permissible for this type of relationship appears. The service (application level) will be available in the list, alongside other options.

5. Left mouse click on this entry.

   The service at application level and the realization relation to the component are created; the service at application level is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

How to proceed

1. Select a business process in the model structure.

   The selected business process is outlined with a selection frame.

2. Drag the selected business process with the left mouse button pressed to a free point in the diagram.

3. Release the left mouse button on a free point in the diagram.

   The selected business process is inserted at this point in the diagram.

4. Select a service (application level) in the diagram.

   The selected service (application level) is outlined with a blue frame. There are various semitransparent icons on the right-hand side; if you hover over them with the mouse they are highlighted – this is called the carousel.

5. Select the Used by icon from the carousel and keep the left mouse button pressed.

6. With the left mouse button pressed, drag the icon onto the business process to be connected.

   When dragging, the position of the connection that will be created is indicated by a blue rubber band line.

7. Let go of the mouse button over the business process to which you want to create the connection.

   The connection expresses that the service is used by the inserted, connected business process.

How to proceed

3. Select the Technology Usage View template from the gallery.

   An empty technology usage view is created and opened in the document area. You can now use this diagram to describe how hardware and software are used at the infrastructure level and how components are used at the application level of business processes or other components.

How to proceed

   This tab contains the Create Diagram Content group.

2. Select the  Node icon from the gallery.

3. Move the mouse over the diagram.

   The node icon is now "attached" to your mouse pointer and follows the movement of the mouse.

4. Click the left mouse button where you want to position the node.

   The node is created and is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

The alternative procedure for creating a component (see above) is, of course, also possible in this step.

How to proceed

1. Right-click on the node to open the context menu.

2. Select Show as Container.

   The node changes in size and is shown as a container port.

3. As previously described, drag a new piece of system software from the gallery to the container.

   The system software is initially given a default name. You can immediately change this.

4. Alternatively, you can drag an existing system software into the container from the diagram.

How to proceed

1. Activate the Start tab in the ribbon.

2. Activate the New Diagram button from the New group.

3. Select the Layered View template from the gallery.

   An empty Layered View is created and opened in the document area. You can now use this diagram to show all levels of an enterprise architecture in a diagram.

How to proceed

1. To represent the assignments to the plateaus in the diagram in color, jump to the color scheme using View>Colors>Color Label.

   The existing color labels are displayed.

2. Select the color label Contained in plateau.

   The elements in the diagram are shaded according to the color label.

3. To specify the instance of an element in a plateau, select the element.

   The properties for the selected element are displayed in the Properties tool window.

4. Open the Labels area by clicking on the arrow.

   The labels available for the element are displayed.

5. For the Contained in plateau label, select which plateau the element occurs in.

   The color of the element is customized in accordance with the assigned plateau.

   Document generation (in MS Word etc.) will of course take into account the current color settings.
