Recording Animation Paths

Animation paths are paths which can be individually set in a BPMN process or mask flow.

A new path is created as a model element in the model tree below the respective BPMN process or mask flow. Animation paths can be moved any number of times within the model; this will not lose the link to the respective process.

An animation path does not necessarily need to lead from the process' start element to its end element; it can also only contain a section of the process.

If you have made changes to the animation path, you will be asked if you want to save these changes when closing the animation window and/or changing between Record and Play mode.

Recording Animation Paths

Prerequisites

A BPMN diagram which contains a process is open.

Context

The process for recording the path is the same in mask flow diagrams.

How to proceed

  1. Select the process or an element in the process in the BPMN diagram which should be the start element in the animation path.

The Animation Tools context tab group appears.

  2. Select New Path.in the Animation tab or Animate Path>New Path in the context menu.

The animation window opens in record mode.

  1. To set a single step, select Animation>Record>Step Forward or Step Forward in the context menu or click on the edge to be run through.

The token then moves onto the next element.

  2. Select Animation>Record>Run Until Decision or Run Until Decision in the context menu to let the path run until the next decision in the process.

The token then moves onto the next gateway.

  3. Select Animation>Record>Step into or Step Over to step into call activities or subprocesses or to miss these out.

The token moves to the next call activity or subprocess or steps over these.

Modifying Animation Paths

How to proceed

  1. Double-click on the animation path in the model tree.

If the path is not empty, it is opened in play mode in the animation window.

  2. Select the process in the BPMN diagram that belongs to the path and select Animation>Animation Path>Open Path><path name>.

If the path is not empty, it is opened in play mode in the animation window.

  1. Jump to record mode with Animation>Animation Path>Recording Mode.
  2. Extend the animation path as previously described. You can also click on Animation>Record>Delete Path from Here to shorten the path and then record it again.

Saving Animation Paths

How to proceed

  • Select Animation>Animation Path>Save Path.
