Defining Messages

Define messages and assign them to a message event, send task, receive task or message flow.

Context

The message element is used for specifying a message to be sent by a message event, send task or receive task. A business object can be assigned to a message; this describes the message's structure in more detail.

A message can be assigned to the following elements:

Message event definition
Send task
Receive task
Message flow

How to proceed

Select Start>New>New Element>Trigger>Message.

A new message is created.
To assign the message to a send or receive task, drag the message and drop it on the respective flow node.
Or use the Message property of the respective flow node.

The message is assigned to the Message property. This is only shown in the Properties window not in the diagram.
Use the respective event definition's Message property to assign a message to a message event definition.
To assign the message to a message flow, drag the message and drop it on the message flow.

The message is assigned to the Message property and shown next to the message flow in the diagram.
