Drag-and-Drop on Diagrams and Diagram Elements

You can drag existing elements from the model content and drop them on certain elements in the diagram. The way this happens depends on the diagram type, the element which you drop and where you drop it.

Drop Target: BPMN Diagram

Element: Process or Collaboration

A view of the process or collaboration appears.

Element: Comment

The comment is shown directly in the diagram.

Element: Event Definition

A new process and an event in it appear. The event references the event definition.

Element: Use Case

A collaboration appears.

This

  • Makes the use cases collaboration property a reference to the use case

  • Creates a participant in the collaboration for each actor linked with the use case; the partner role participant property is referenced for the respective actor.

  • Also creates a participant for this element if the use case is in a system (e.g. components); its partner entity property references the system.

Drop Target: Business Resources Diagram

Element: Business Resource or Comment

Business resources or comments are shown directly in the diagram.

Drop Target: Activity (Task or Subprocess)

Element: Resources Element

The resource element is assigned to the resource assignment property.

Drop Target: Data Store Reference

Element: Data Store

The data store is assigned to the data store definition property.

Drop Target: Event

Element: Event Definition

The event definition is added to the event definitionproperty. The result's icon changes according to the type of event definition.If there are multiple event definitions assigned, the multipleicon can be seen.

Drop Target: Data Element (Data Object, Data Store Reference, Data Input, Data Output)

Element: Definition of an Object Structure

The definition of an object structure is assigned the structure definition property. Assignments to global states are removed.

Element: State

The state is added to the state (global) property.This sets the uses global state switch.The definition of the object structure which the state belongs to is also assigned in the structure definitionproperty. If there was already an entry here, the new state needs to fit with the existing definitions of the object structure, otherwise the process produces an error message.

Element: Classifier

The classifier is assigned to the derived fromproperty.

Drop Target: Lane

Element: Resources Element

The resource element is assigned to the resourceproperty.

Drop Target: Message Referencing Element (Task, Event Definition, Message Flow)

Element: Message

The message is assigned to the messageproperty.

Drop Target: Participant

Element: Process

The process is assigned to the Process viewproperty.

Element: Resources Element

The resource element is assigned to the partner roleproperty.

Drop Target: Process

Element: Resources Element

The resource element is assigned to the responsible business resource property.

Drop Target: Task

Element: Callable Process Element (Global Task, Process)

The callable process element is assigned to the called element property as long as the task type is set to unspecifiedor call activity.

Element: Service Operation

The service operation is assigned to the service operation property as long as the task type is set to unspecified, send, receive or service.

Element: Mask Definition

The mask definition is assigned to the mask definition property as long as the task type is set to unspecified or user.

Drop Target: Business Resource

Element: Location

The definition is added to the location assignmentproperty.
