Mapping Preview

Model elements are created and modified during mapping. It depends on the selection of existing model elements as to what is created or modified.

Prerequisites

You have started the Mapping editor with a mapping between the database schema and the conceptual model.

An engineering action with the Simulate tag is defined.

You have selected elements and the target model is set.

Context

You want to know which model elements are created or modified by the mapping before you make these changes.

The model elements are highlighted in color in the structure of the target model.

Font Color Meaning
Cyan

Linked model elements

The existing target element has been linked with the source element using a mapping dependency and has not otherwise been changed.

Blue

Modified model elements

The existing target element has been modified and linked with the source element using a mapping dependency.

Green

Newly-created model elements

A new model element has been created in the target, the properties have been set according to the rules and it has been linked to the source element using a mapping dependency.

Red

Model elements which can be deleted

Model elements that can be deleted. The model elements are not deleted automatically. You can verify and delete them here.

Black Unmodified model elements

How to proceed

  1. Select Mapping>Map Model>Preview.

You can see the changes made to the model on the right-hand side of the mapping area if you carry out the mapping. The model elements are highlighted in the model structure.

    Note

The changes shown in the preview are not identical to the changes that will be carried out by the mapping. As the mapping result depends on what already exists and nothing is created or modified for the preview itself, then many changes may not be simulated. If e.g. a package was created as new, then all contents of the new package cannot be simulated.

  2. Select Mapping>Filter>Show All.

The unmodified model elements are shown in Black.
