Using Events

An event is something that happens during the course of a process. These events affect the flow of the process.

An event is something that can happen in a business process, e.g. receiving a message, reaching a certain date or occurrence of an exception.

In Innovator, the event's type is normally recognized automatically based on the position of the incoming sequence or message flows. However, there are certain circumstances where the event type needs to be manually set:

The type of event is specified in more detail using event definitions. Event definitions are standalone model elements which can be assigned to events in a process. An event definition can be assigned to multiple events; the events do not even have to be in the same processes. Vice versa, various event definitions can also be assigned to an event.

You can use Link events to split sequence flows and diagrams to make a diagram easier to understand.
