Processes Definitions and Views
Process views are created to highlight certain aspects of a business process or collaboration; the process views are based on the relevant process definition.
A definition of a referencing view differentiates processes and collaborations. Definitions and referencing views are diagram representations focused on different aspects. The definition should graphically show all model content, whereas a referencing view is used for displaying relevant model content and removing all other model elements.
The current reference always exists as well as the referencing view of a process: You normally will not want to define your own view for a process call, you will only want to view the complete process when needed. The process reference is, therefore, standard if you call a process. You will see a referencing view once you expand the call activity; you can then remove process elements from it.
It only makes sense to model a BPMN process with a graphical display. It can be assigned to various elements which are graphically visualized; in a participant, a collaboration and a call activity of a process. The process should then also be able to be displayed within the participant or call activity.
Innovator supports various visualizations in various diagrams for processes. Any number of process references can be created using a process definition as a basis to show a certain aspect. The concept was also transferred to collaborations which can also be displayed in various BPMN diagrams.
Innovator gives you the means for modeling various referencing views of one process or one collaboration. Various references are only informative if they are also consistent with the actual definition of the process or collaboration. Innovator therefore shows you whether the referencing view is complete and has no contradictions.
