Inserting an Existing Process in a Diagram

Insert an existing process from the model structure into a BPMN diagram.

Context

You can drag an existing process from the model structure into a BPMN diagram. It does not matter whether the diagram already contains elements or not. However, this determines whether the process is already shown in another diagram.

  • The process is not yet shown in a diagram:
The process is then inserted as a definition in the diagram and can be modeled there.
  • The process is already shown in another diagram:
The process is then inserted as a referencing view; you can only change the layout or hide the element.

How to proceed

  1. Select the process to be inserted in the model structure and use drag-and-drop to place it in a free space in the BPMN diagram.

The process is inserted. This may cause other diagram elements already there to be moved so that the process is not shown as overlapping.
