Creating a Process in the Diagram
Processes can be modeled either horizontally or vertically. You can decide which way you want to use when creating a process.
Creating a Horizontal or Vertical Process in the Diagram
Context
Processes can be modeled either horizontally or vertically. You can decide which way you want to use when creating a process.
How to proceed
-
Position the mouse pointer at your chosen position in the BPMN diagram and select the template for a
horizontal process or a
vertical process from the mini toolbar in the context menu.A new process is created in the diagram. The name of the process is automatically selected to be edited.
-
Enter the name for the process and confirm with the [Enter] key.
Tip
You can create various element types in Innovator diagrams in this way. The types of elements available in the mini toolbar primarily depend on the diagram type used, the model template used and the user role selected in a model.
Automatic Creation of a Process with First Flow Node or Lane
Prerequisites
The diagram does not contain any elements.
Context
You can trigger the automatic creation of a new process by inserting the first flow node or lane.
The elements which can be linked by sequence flows are shown as flow nodes in a BPMN diagram, i.e. task, subprocess, event and gateway.
You can also start the modeling of a horizontal or vertical process with a corresponding lane.
If one of these elements is dragged into an empty BPMN diagram, Innovator automatically creates a new process which contains this element.
Note
Please note that this mechanism only works with the event icon for events but not with the various event definitions.
How to proceed
-
Click in the BPMN diagram.
The Design tab is shown in the Create Diagram Content group.
-
Drag a lane, an event, a task, a subprocess or a gateway from the gallery in the Create Diagram Content group and drop it in the diagram.
A new process with a default name is created. The inserted element is placed in this process. The name is automatically selected for editing if it is a lane, task or subprocess.
-
Enter the name for the flow node and confirm with the [Enter] key.
-
Rename the automatically-created process.
