Using Models

Innovator models provide a framework for simple mapping of a section of reality. You always create a model based on a model template that initially provides and defines this framework.

A model's project-specific conventions are defined in the model template or in the model configuration at a later stage.

A model is always created and managed in a repository. The respective repository needs to be available for editing a model.

You can use managed models1, models from independent servers2 and models from local model files3 in Innovator.

The repository is automatically started and exited and compressed locally stored for local model files.

A model can comprise of various system models so that multiple systems can be described in a model and their relationships can be shown at the same time.

The modeling platform, Innovator, supports business process modeling, object-oriented system analysis, object-oriented software design and data modeling. Innovator is especially suited for model-driven software development as it enables domain-specific language extensions using UML 2 profiles.

It is used in pretty much the same way as Innovator, regardless of type and project-specific conventions.

You can find general information about modeling and models in the "Information About Models" chapter.
