Expanding and Collapsing Elements in the Diagram

You can click on certain elements to expand or collapse them in the respective diagrams. Two behavior types and respective icons are differentiated between for this.

Prerequisites

A diagram exists, is opened and is reserved for editing. Elements which can be expanded or collapsed are visible.

Context

You can click on the expand icon for certain elements to expand or collapse them in the respective diagrams. Two behavior types and respective icons are differentiated between for this.

Attention

Expanding and collapsing diagram elements can irreversibly affect the diagram's layout.

Elements appear in their current expanded or collapsed state in the model's documentation.

You can directly expand and collapse the following elements:

  • Extension points in use cases (use case diagram)
  • Typed entries in structure definitions in processes (structure diagram)
  • Sections of classes (class diagram)

The general expand icons (expand) and (collapse) are used for this.

Note

Elements are expanded in a different way in BPMN diagrams so that diagram elements are not unintentionally moved.

How to proceed

  • Click on the icon to expand the element or on the icon to collapse the element.

The element is expanded or collapsed and the other respective icon appears.
